  • Mehdi Hasan the New Statesman?s Senior Political Editor Controversy
     OP - August 21, 2009, 07:24 AM

New Statesman www.newstatesman.com is probably the most important left-wing weekly magazine in the UK and it recently appointed a new Senior Editor for politics - Mehdi Hasan. I do quite frequently read New Statesman (Maryam Namazie sometimes writes a column in there) even though I have in the last few years become more and more disillusioned about the whole leftist agenda. Approximately two weeks ago blog Harry`s place http://www.hurryupharry.org/ posted a few pieces on Mehdi Hasan with YouTube videos showing him in a rather strange light.

A ping-pong discussion between Harry`s place and Mehdi Hasan ensued where he claimed that he was being misinterpreted but the whole thing left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth.

Any thoughts regarding the video? Some claim that this is simply persecution of Mehdi Hasan because of his religious beliefs and that he was taken out of context (to be fair the rest of the speech was quite moderate) but IMHO saying what he said and believing it to be perfectly acceptable is unworthy of an intellectual he claims to be.

The truth is anyone who is religious is likely to have some crazy views, especially one who follows Islam which is full of hate towards non-muslims. Luckily most Muslims ignore the harsher aspects of the faith.

Take the Pakman challenge and convince me there is a God and Mo was not a murdering, power hungry sex maniac.
