Ok I don't watch Glen Beck's show ( I don't find him appealing ) and I've listened to his radio show a few times, but couldn't people have simply refused to watch his television show instead of demanding he be fired? He does have the right to freedom of speech and people could have simply not tuned into his show. After all if nobody tuned into his show, he would have been taken off a long time ago.
Do you really need me to explain why a private company firing an employee for broadcasting controversial opinions is not a violation of that employee's free speech?
And principled people refusing to listen to him doesn't prevent his vile bigotry and lies from influencing other people. Activists didn't demand state censorship, but they did ask Fox to stop being so irresponsible in giving such a bigoted lunatic such a large platform to speak on-- a platform that is controlled by a handful of corporate interests.
But sorry that your fascist friend got fired, I know it must pain you to have one less lunatic spreading insane far-right reactionary bullshit on the airwaves.
