Judicial Magistrate (South) Hatim Aziz Alvi remanded a man to judicial custody till November 3 for allegedly killing his son-in law and directed the investigation officer to submit challan on the next date of hearing. Qadir Bux alias Rajab was sent to jail while two co-accused – his wife Zeba and son Sabir Hussain — had been absconding. All three were allegedly involved in killing Amir Joseph for marrying Shahina.

According to prosecution, Shahina and Amir entered into free will marriage in District Larkana and shifted to Karachi. Shahina’s parents also moved to Karachi and managed to locate their daughter. On September 19, Qadir invited his daughter and son-in law at home and seemingly let them off, saying lets forget the past.

After lunch he asked his wife to take Shahina for shopping as they had not given her anything in dowry. Zeba took her daughter to shopping while Qadir and Amir remained at home. Later, Qadir gave his son-in-law some poison in juice drink due to which he fell unconscious, following which he along with his son Sabir slaughtered Amir Joseph and threw his body in the bushes.

He, however, did not tell about the whereabouts of his daughter. Earlier, Shahina had corded her statement in the court, saying that she married to Amir of her free will. However, her whereabouts could not be traced after the murder of her husband. Public Prosecutor Syed Shamim Ahmed contended in the court that mystery shrouds about Shahina and he feared that she might also have been killed.

He requested the court that since investigation was still underway and crime weapon was yet to be recovered the accused be sent to jail. He informed the court that a police party was also sent to Larkana but they could not locate Shahina and he doubted that she might also have been killed.
