How can I help my wife to rid of her religion?
OP - February 12, 2011, 05:19 AM

My wife is of arabic origin. Her religion is getting on my nerves. I do not like religions so much.
The problem is, that the hole family is suffering from it. My wife suffers as well from her own
religion.

So, is there anybody that can give me an advice to help my wife to get out of her cage??

Is her religion Islam or X-ianity? Were you religious when you got married? Where do you live?

A good idea I think is to get her to watch Dawkins and Hitchens debate with religious people. That way you could entice her by thinking she is supporting the religionist but she will still hear the arguments against. Although I think you should refrain completely on commenting (at least at first) and give "I'm not sure" as your opinion on the debate - that way she will take stuff on board without arguing against any of it and convincing herself she is right.

Dawkins is good at the logic side, whereas Hitchens is great as dispelling the emotional attachment.

That is a good start ., But instead of Islam Vs Atheist debate, the better beginning would be video debates between Christianity/Other religions Verses Atheist.. or Christianity vs Secular Humanism such as these .. there are 14 of them

In either case it doesn't seem like she would have been conservative or fundamentalist... Is she?

Btw, from my personal experience, she may not be happy if she finds out that you're talking behind her back. Are you?

I think "Why I am not a christian" may be a better option: less scary, but probably covering a lot of the same relevant topics.

Like I said before, a good way to deconvert a religious person is by asking her questions about her religion.

Basically, by showing curiosity, you will make her try to explain her own religion from your own non-religious perspective and she will have a hard time figuring out why a non-religious person should end up believing all that pile of irrational stuff ^_^

So, the more detailed and specific you try to get, the more she would realize that the whole thing does not sum up to anything that really makes sense.

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

If you want to challenge your wife's religious views you need to talk to her about what you disagree with. And explain why you disagree with her. If its bothering you so much that its affecting your relationship only you can deal with it through conversation.

my experience is that it can be wired in one's brain so much, that it is almost impossible to get it out. It all depends on if she WANTS to listen to you, if she WANTS to be critical in the first place. Many muslims do not want to disbelieve, they feel safe and secure the way they are and it has become part of them. My ex husband is totally like this, he preferred seperating from me than to even start listening to anything I had to say. He would have preferred dying than to give up his faith. Also if she truly believes it, letting go can be a very hard process and the cause of a lot of fear of hell... you have to take this very seriously.

I am at crossroads today. As my age of marriage is rapidly approaching, hence my family getting into finding a suitable partner chase, - I being a shy person always being introvert and awkward with girls haven't got anything on the hook yet.
I need to be fast,- and find something on my own. Ofcourse it is very important that whoever I might find, must be of the same mindset. Thinking that I might turn a (devout) Muslims into a murtadd is like wishfullthinking. However, she needs to have the approval of my parents, which entails that she necesarrily has to be a covert ex-muslimah.
Difficult. May Allah swt help us.
All the others: Letting others give up their religion is ~~difficult~~ impossible. It is EVRYTHINH they got: the difference between eternal bliss or eternal gloom. Religion is literally their raison-d'etre.
Although the fault with Islam are so evidence,- even a child(not being indoctrinated) can see the flaws and fallacies. It has been hard-wired into ones brains..Thoe synaptic connections won't get that broken, it has become a survival strategy.

I shouldn't be here. Really. Shaytan SWT deluded ALL of us. Amen.
