  • Explaining shariah
     OP - January 17, 2012, 07:17 PM

I made a vid today on my thoughts regarding muslims who try to explain the 'wisdom' behind shariah.

    Thought I'd share.

Muslim; Allah ordained the hijab to protect women

Me; Then Muhammad could have ordained the hijab to protect women.

Muslim; Allah ordained the death penalty for adultery because it is a social ill, affecting familes adversely.

Me; Then Muhammad could have ordained the death penalty for adultery because it is a social ill, affecting familes adversely.

Muslim; Allah ordained X, because of Y

Me; Then Muhammed could have ordained X, because of Y

Muslim; There is no way Muhammad could have known that it would have that benefit. We only know now based on 20th/21st century social sciences.

Me; Even If Muhammad inferred that something was 'true' or 'good' based on little evidence - it's happened many times during the history of science.

Pythagoras, Eratosthenes, and Aristotle inferred that the earth was round before 300 BC!!!

that is a good one strangestdude.. keep it up., You are logically right., but Muslims  that follwo the rules of Allah don't want hear or see the logic., they are believers.. blind believers when it comes to Islam., They only use reason to explain Islam to non-Muslims or defend Islam by comparing it with religions/followers of other religions ot their scriptures.

Any way suggestion is., Your reason of origin of Morality being human not allah/god voodoo doll   etc..etc.. will work with all religions..

    strangestdude:
    1) Which benefits? Serious its still adultery in the Muslim world.
    2) Regarding human reason and Mu'tazilites , as you know lot of the hudud-punishments and part of sharia in general predates Islam. Are you familiar with The Code of Hammurabi which also predates the OT/Bible?

Ergo what is "revolutionizing" and "new" with sharia or more specifically hudud then? Nada!

    1) I agree, but that's what muslims often claim. I was going along with the assumption to make a point. (I'm sure you got that anyway, but just want to make sure it's clear)

    2) Thanks for that insight  Afro.
