British Woman Arrested in UAE for Bikini Stroll Protest..   says news..

eople of different nationalities pass by a dress code sign at a shopping mall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
    Quote
Dubai police say a British woman was detained after she stripped down to her bikini and strutted defiantly through an upscale mall.  The incident began on Wednesday after an Emirati woman who was covered from head-to-toe in black confronted her for wearing a low-cut shirt. An argument then broke out.

Mall security detained both women and took them to a police station for questioning.  They were later released after police say the Emirati woman lodged a public indecency complaint.

The mall, one of the world's largest, has signs asking shoppers to dress modestly. Most Westerners routinely ignore the signs.  The incident is the latest in a string of morals cases involving Westerners in Dubai....

Yeeeha.. You go girl., I say as BURQA PROTEST .. one day year there should be Islamic festival where ALL WOMEN WALK IN BIKINI ON ROADS & ALL MEN WALK IN BURQA.. Off course the length of the burqa should be strictly until their knees. That Islamic festival should be encouraged in every country including Islamic countries..    Let the rascal arrest every one..

Who is she to enforce her moral standards on people of another society?  It's exactly the same as someone coming here from the jungle and walking down the road completely naked, they'd be arrested too, and most of us (not me) would agree with the arrest.

The question is, how many clothes do you have to put on before you are "decent"?

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

Can't blame them really a hangover of the freedom back home! But hey! come to think of it, if these people don't want to do as the brits do when they come to Britain, they can't expect the Brits do as they do when they come over to the UAE! It's much ado about nothing really!
In fact the white frock that the lady is wearing is sensible wear when the weather is hot! You just can't do anything about guys with dirty minds and self righteous females anyway. You are truly free when your dress choice is not influenced by them.

Not that I agree with the arrest, but when in Rome...

You don't know much of history, do you dear Abood?  Prophet Muhammad said to Roman 1400 years back.. "Screw you Rome romeos., The rules have changed and that come from Allah." So you know we should learn something from Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) and tell these rascals in Dubai.. Screw you and we dress as we think is decent.. get over idiots .. we do cover our private parts and that is Allah said through Muhammad. "COVER YOUR PRIVATE PARTS"..

    That should be the response..

Really? So you're lumping all Muslims together now?

Oh yeh? Well, then why is nudity not allowed even in liberal democracies? I'll ask the same question TheRationalizer asks: how many clothes do you have to put on before you are "decent"? It just happens to be that different societies have different standards on what they perceive to be "decent".

LOL! What the hell is RESPECTFUL CLOTHING?

@ Abood sorry! I honestly meant those people who were objecting! Any offense caused was totally unintentional and sincerely regretted.
But people can't have it both ways : either you are free to wear what you want or you accept restrictions depending on the location. I personally would opt for the first option! You can avoid a lot of hypocritical situations that way.

Who cares about liberal democracies??? Allah said in the book.."COVER YOUR PRIVATE PARTS"  That is the rule and that is word of Allah.  And what you put on top those covers is your choice. So your question is invalid in Islam Abood . Follow the book.

Well, you see, the people who are objecting to it aren't in the UK; they're in the UAE. They're not the same people who are advocating for Sharia in the UK. Unless you think all Muslims can be lumped together, that is.

Now you will see the problems when you don't allow people to wear what they want freely.
If you accept 'different standards', the brits will say 'wearing the burkha' is bloody indecent and insulting to womanhood so BAN THE BURKHA! So if a woman from UAE comes over to UK she must come without the burkha and when  a brit goes over to the UAE she wears the BURKHA.

OK, seriously, unless it's a security threat, there's no maximum limit on decency.

By the way, just to be clear, I don't support the arrest. I think the woman should have a right to wear whatever she wants to wear. I also don't care if people walked naked in liberal democracies -- so I'm opposed to decency laws in general. The problem, however, is that most people opposed to this probably also support decency laws when it comes to nudity. So this in a sense is a form of cultural imperialism. You have to either reject all forms of decency laws, or accept them all, because decency is very subjective.

For example I saw the woman in the white frock as a fine specimen of womanhood. I would see her like a beautiful flower in the garden to be visually relished with respect. It all bogs down to your perceptions; there's nothing good or bad about nudity, it's how you look at it that gives makes it bad or good.

IMO most Brits don't care what anyone wears when they're in the UK, likewise we don't tend to care either what anyone thinks of our dress standards when we're abroad.

Laws, religions or anything else has nothing to do with it.  Until countries (Islamic ones included) state in their literature, holiday brochures etc. before  you go there,  that you aren't allowed into the country unless you abide by their dress codes then they shouldn't bleat when we wear what the hell we like when we're there spending our money.  Roll Eyes

Yes! indeed reciprocity is something that doesn't need to be elaborated in human interactions. It's perfectly rational and understood by all. But many a times man's irrationality [due to  the edicts of your religion for eg.] causes him to be blind to it!
