  • Women in Noerrebro in demonstration: stop the gang war
     OP - April 10, 2011, 11:23 PM

For some time now there has been a war going on between various immigrant gangs in Copenhagen. So far it has cost 10 deaths and 70 wounded.

Good on these women to try and do something. Hope the men will listen.

More than 100 women from Noerrebro demonstrated outside Mjoelnerparken.

They demand an end to the gang war, higher penalties for carrying weapons, and that everybody speak up and say that "enough is enough.

"Violence is not the answer", "Stop killing our brothers" and simply "enough is enough".

Women in Noerrebro have had enough of the gang war and weapons in and around Mjoelnerparken, Blaagaards Square and elsewhere.

This is the message they chose to send loud and clear with banners, Sunday the 10th of April, as more than 100 women showed up at the so-called DSB area right next to Mjoelnerparken in order to attract the attention of the government, the police and the gangs.

"We need to get the gang war stopped, the penalty for carrying weapons should be more severe, and we should all speak up," said one of the initiators Manal El-Chami, who visits Mjoelnerparken daily, has friends there and herself lives close by.

Together with among others Helene Larsen, who moved away from Mjoelnerparken a few months ago and Amene Mansour, who has friends in Mjoelnerparken, she initiated the rally which was attended by police and also had brought TV News and TV2 News to outer Noerrebro.

"We need to oust the criminal youngsters, the ones with weapons, so that they don´t act as role models for the very young boys who look up to them, "was the message from the three women.

Homicide in Valby was the last straw
The demonstration stems not only from the many recent cases of random shootings, but especially the murder in Valby a few days ago - a killing for which two residents from Mjoelnerparken have been charged and remanded in prison. The shooting in an estate in Valby got the women to draw the line.

"It was a 19-year-old without any connection to the gang war who died. It has got to stop here, "said Helene Larsen, who normally is a teacher at the Muslim free school on Svanevej.

During the demonstration small children played around the women. The demonstration was only for women but no participants were turned away.

Helene Larsen and Manal El-Chami were in the late News tv studio to night. Manal talked a lot about more severe punishment and about how the Danish prisons are too nice (LOL), the gang members don´t consider being in prison a punishment, they see the prisons as a home away from home. They should not be able to get a reduction in their sentence for good behaviour and there definitely should not be open prisons.

Neither she nor Helene or the anchor talked about teaching the very young boys some manners or about keeping them off the streets late at night.

Last fall a frustrated resident wrote an article about living in Noerrebro here is an excerpt :

    Quote
    " I am fleeing Noerrebro now '

I am tired of living in Noerrebro, when ill mannered kids are allowed to bully the district, writes a father to be.

You are so damn powerless that it makes you want to scream!

I never thought that I, who otherwise love the multiethnic Noerrebro, was going to say this, but I am damn well losing faith that it will ever get better and I no longer want to live in Noerrebro, when the  parliament of the street in the form of rude kids are allowed to bully us.

Last week my visibly pregnant girlfriend while bicycling had a plastic cup thrown at her by a group of boys, not much older than 10. The cup with contents hit her bicycle basket, but it might as well have hit her face and caused a crash.

And it comes on top of a number of other experiences where I and my family have been harassed.

Within the last year I have been threatened by the boys. Bottles and slush-ice have been thrown at us. We are continually being yelled at etc.

My initial thought is to take them by the ears and drag them home to their parents. But you dare not do anything for those standing at the street corners dealing keep an eye on you. The little ones exploit this and start shouting about violence and racism the minute you stand up to them.

The Police do not have time to deal with such trifles, which I completely understand. But must one do something about it or do you just ignore it?

In my eyes this is an example of failure and egoism. It is about boys as young as 6-13 hanging out in the street till after midnight harassing passers-by.

It is also about 14-20 years old driving around on Mopeds and in cars, acting as kings of the street and trying to live up to some gangsta-macho-ideals and not showing respect to others.

And finally it is about very visible groups of a more serious nature, who stand at every other street corner selling Hash etc.

We are talking about groups who sour life for others and who only seek confrontation and I cannot tolerate it any longer.

I have to ask you to make your boys behave.
