  • Dead Sea Burial
     OP - December 19, 2011, 06:08 AM

    Someone recently told me that in the Quran it states that Angel Jebberial(spelling?) during the time of Ibrahim and Lut destroyed a town of "gays". This is said to be the cause of the Dead Sea being so bitter and hence it's name. Is there anything to debunk this?

    it's called the dead sea because there's no life in it due to its oversaturation in salt, which also explains its taste.

    That person must be thinking of the Sodom and Gomorrah story. AFAIK it's never been held to have any connection with the Dead Sea, but they may have been confused by Lot's wife. She got turned into a pillar of salt (in the Bible, at least) and the Dead Sea is full of salt.

    Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

    Yes, common sense.

    Religion is ignorance giftwrapped in lyricism.

    let us read some Quran before coupling that to gays... Dead Sea, its salt  content and or bitterness..

    Quote
    7:80-84
    Quote
    "And (remember) Lut, when he said to his people; "Do you commit the worst sin such as none has preceding you has committed in the 'Alamin (among the mankind and the jinn)?"

    81. "Verily, you practice your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by such sins)."

    82"And the answer of his people was only that they said: 'Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

    83. "Then (Allah) saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment)."

    84. "And (Allah) rained down on them a rain (of stones). Then see what was the end of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.)"

    .............................
    11:77-83;
    Quote
    77. "And when (Allah's) Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account and felt himself straightened for them (because his people would approach the angels to commit sodomy with them). He said; "This is a distressful day."

    78. "And his people came rushing towards him, and since aforetime they used to commit crimes (sodomy, etc.), he said; "O my people! Here are my daughters (i.e. the daughters of my nation), they are purer for you (if you marry them lawfully). So fear Allah and degrade me not as regards my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?"

    79. "They said; 'Surely you know that we have neither any desire nor in need of your daughters, and indeed you know well what we want!'"

    80. "He said; 'Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you).'"

    81. "They (Angels) said; 'O Lut! Certainly, we are the Messengers from your Lord! They shall not reach you! So travel with your family in a part of the night, and let not any of you look back, but your wife (will remain behind), certainly the punishment which will afflict them, will afflict her. Indeed, morning is their appointed time. Is not the morning near?'"

    82. "So when (Allah's) Commandment came, (Allah) turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of baked clay, piled up;
    83. Marked from you Lord, and they are not ever far from the THalimun (polytheists, evil-doers, etc.)

    ............................
    15:56-77
    Quote
    56. "(Ibrahim says to the angels who came to him) 'And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?'"

    57. "(Ibrahim) said; 'What then is the business on which you have come, O Messengers?'"

    58. "They (angels) said; 'We have been sent to a people who are MUJRIMUN (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners).'"

    59. "(All) except the family of Lut. All of them we will surely save (from destruction).'"
    60. "Except his wife, of whom (Allah) has decreed she shall be of those who remain behind (she'll be destroyed)."

    61. "Then, when the (angels) came to the family of Lut."

    62. "He said; 'Certainly, you are a people unknown to me.'"

    63. "They said; 'Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting.'"

    64. "And we have brought to you the truth (news of destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth.'"

    65. "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered.'"

    66. "And (Allah) made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning."

    67. "And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival)."

    68. "(Lut) said; 'Surely, these are my guests (the angels), so shame me not.'"

    69. "And fear Allah and disgrace me not."

    70. "They (people of the city) said; 'Did we not forbid you to entertain (or protect) any of the 'Alamin (people, foreigners, strangers etc. from us)?"

    71. "(Lot) said; 'These (girls of his nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)"

    72. "Sincerely, by your life (O Muhammad, peace be upon him), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly."

    73. So As-Saiha (torment - awful cry etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise;

    74. "And (Allah) turned (cities of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay."

    75. "Truly, in this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah)."

    76. "And Truly, They (the cities) are right on the highroad (from Makka to Syria, i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now)."

    77. "Truly, this is indeed a sign for the believers."

    ..........................
    21:74
    Quote
    74. "And (remember) Lut, (Allah) gave him Hukm (correct judgment of affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and (Allah) saved him from the town (people) who practiced Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc). Truly, they were a people inclined to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah)."

    .......................
    26:160-175;
    Quote
    160. "The people of Lut (lived in Sodom in Palestine) lied against the Messengers (of Allah)".

    161. "When their brother Lut said to them; 'Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?'"

    162. "Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.'"

    163. "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me."

    164. "No reward do I ask of you for it (Message of Islam), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn, all that exists).'"

    165. "Do you go into the males of the 'Alamin (mankind),

    166. "And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your wives? NO! But you are a trespassing people!"

    167. "They said; 'If you don't stop Lut, certainly you are going to be of those whom we drive away!'"

    168. "He said; 'I am, indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (evil) action (of sodomy)'."

    169. "My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do."

    170. "So (Allah) saved him and his family, all -

    171. Except an old woman (his wife) among those who remained behind."

    172. "Then afterward (Allah) destroyed the others."

    173. "And (Allah) rained down on them a rain (of torment). And how evil was the rain of those who had been warned."

    174. "Certainly, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers."

    ..........................
    27:54-58;
    Quote
    54. "And (remember) Lut! (Lot) When he said to his people (the town of Sodom in Palestine where the dead sea is now); 'Do you commit Al-Fahishah (evil, great sin, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy etc.) while you see (one another doing evil without any screen etc.)?'"

    55. "Do you go after men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, but for sure you are a people who behave senselessly.'"

    56. "There was no other answer given by his people except that they said; 'Drive out the family of Lut form our city. Certainly, these are men who want to be clean and pure!'"

    57. "So (Allah) saved him and his family, except his wife. We destined her to be of those who remained behind."

    58. "So (Allah) rained down on them a rain (of stones). So evil was the rain of those who were warned."

    ...............................
    29:31,33;
    31. "And when (Allah's) Messengers (angels) came to Ibrahim with the glad tidings they said; 'Certainly, we are going to destroy the people of this (Lut's) town (Sodom in Palestine). Truly, its people have been THalimun (wrong-doers, polytheists and disobedient to Allah, and have also falsely denied their Messenger (Lut))."

    33. "And when (Allah's) Messengers (angels) came to Lut, he was grieved because of them, and felt straightened for their sake. They said; 'Do not fear and do not grieve! For sure we shall save you and your family, except for your wife, as she is destined to be of those who stay behind (i.e. she will be destroyed along with those who will be destroyed from her people).'"

    37:133-136;
    133. "And certainly, Lut was one of the Messengers.

    134. "When (Allah) saved him and his family, all,

    135. "Except an old woman (his wife) who was of those who remained behind."

    136. "Then (Allah) destroyed the rest (the towns of Sodom in Palestine where the Dead Sea is now)".

    54:33-39
    33. "The people of Lut treated false the warnings."

    34. "Surely, (Allah) sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lut, whom (Allah) saved in the last hour of the night,"

    35. "As a Favor from (Allah), this is how (Allah) rewards those who give thanks (by obeying Allah)."

    36. "And he (Lut) indeed had warned them of (Allah's) Grasp, but they did doubt the warnings!"

    37. "And they indeed sought to shame his guest *by asking them to commit sodomy with them). So (Allah) blinded their eyes... "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings.""

    38. "And Truly, a remaining torment seized them early in the morning."

    39. "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings."

    his disobedient wife, 11:81; 15:60; 66:10

    Al-'Imran (3:31-32)

    "Say; 'If you truly love Allah then follow me (accept Islam, Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him), the Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is the Forgiving, Most Merciful.'"
    "Say, 'Obey Allah and the Messenger.' But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers."
