  • Hey I'm ex-Muslim
     OP - March 09, 2012, 06:07 PM

Hey everyone, I'm a sceptical, feministic, freethinking, ex-Muslim, part Jewish, Jamaican, left-wing, anti-theistic and bisexual atheist.

    How're you guys?

I signed up because I've been writing about my deconversion for a while and I realised that I've actually never told the story. It's kind of deep and may be disturbing. I'm almost numb to the ordeal, but I think it's something that I really need to talk about.

That aside though, I should probably add more words to describe me like "science enthusiast" and "awesome".

I used to be powerful, then I started blogging.

Is Islam big in Jamaica, or wert thou born into a Muslim family? (yes, I write strangely, but so do others on this forum.)

    Thanks everyone!

I'm a guy btw. I think it was a little ambiguous with the feminist title.

Also I don't really know what ska music is. I was raised by radical Muslims that thought that music was the spawn of Shaytan.

Islam isn't big in Jamaica, but there was a West Indian community of Muslims in London that my father got caught up in before I was born. Therefore me.  Smiley

Well, as a Mohist, I believe that music is detrimental to society, but I would never prevent people from listening to it. Ah, but I am half-deaf, and often music distracts me and makes it difficult for me to hear.

    Congrats PureInertia,

I read your life story on another thread - can't find it now. Anyway, it was a fascinating read, often unbelievable at times, I guess mixing a psychopath, I hope you don't mind me saying that about your father,  with radical Islam was bound to result in some wacky and painful  memories; just out of curiosity, what kind of cult did he manage to garner? Did he declare himself to be the Mahdi or something? Sounds like heresy, well Islamically speaking.

What do you think will anger your father the most? Your apostasy or the fact that you're attracted to the same sex? I think the Black community is as homophobic as the Asian.

I've noticed a steady rise of Muslim converts from the Afro-Caribbean community in London, Islam seems to be - oddly- the new 'Rock N' Roll'

Also I don't really know what ska music is. I was raised by radical Muslims that thought that music was the spawn of Shaytan.

To me, it's some very joyful, very energetic kind of music, much more interesting than the too slow-paced but more famous reggae.
I can get you a few link to YouTube video featuring ska music, if you want to discover this music grin12.

I think my bisexuality would definitely pack a bigger and better punch. He knows I'm an atheist now, but none know of my sexuality.

I don't really understand that. If you don't mind me saying, how could anyone make a generalisation like that?
