  • CEMB @ The Secular Europe Campaign March and Rally
     OP - September 04, 2012, 05:21 PM

"Saturday 15th September, the Secular Europe Campaign returns to the streets of London for a protest march and rally. Speakers include Pavan Dhaliwal (BHA), Terry Sanderson (NSS), Robin Ince, Professor Richard Norman, Joan Smith, Peter Tatchell and, from the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain, Nahla Mahmood. If you want a secular society, where religion and politics are separate and where faith no longer holds a privileged position, then it's time to stand up and be counted. Be there, join us, or remain silent."

It's been great to see more and more people from the forum attending talks, rallies, meet-ups, etc. With the attitude of our current government in the UK (our Secretary of State for Education supports the establishment of creationist schools, the new secretary for health supports homeopathy on the NHS, and the vehement anti-secularist Sayeeda Warsi was today made "Minister for Faith and Community"), now is an incredibly important time to stand up and show your support for a secular society. Also come along to shout, scream and show your support for Nahla Mahmood who'll be speaking on behalf of the CEMB. It'd be great to see lots of forum heads there...I'm thinking of getting some t-shirts printed up for the march. Let me know if you're interested.

I hope more people from the forum will join the rally this year.  Smiley

    *BUMP*

Next weekend people...march and rally through London, bring yourself, some catchy chants and a friend. Nahla Mahmood is giving a speech at the rally, so if the march, the chanting, the public support of secularism and all of the other speakers aren't enough to get your lazy asses up and out, coming along to support Nahla bloody well should be. Last year I think there were five CEMB folk there, can we try to at least double that please!

I'm gonna try and make it, will check with my brother and see if he can babysit for me, if not him my friend will do it since I am babysitting her crew overnight on friday.

However at some stage in the route you guys better hide me in the crowd since from what I see, I'm going to be right around the corner from my ex husbands house and his family's.   wacko

Tbh that alone might be the only reason I don't make it, cos I might not be able to pluck up the courage.  That's very close to an area I never go near.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

*BUMP* This is happening this Saturday people. If you're looking for us, look for a big "One Law For All - Against Sharia and Faith Based Laws" banner. If you'd like to meet up before hand PM me and we can swap contact details.

Also...I'm thinking of going to this afterwards:

The Pod Delusion Third Birthday party:

WHAT?! To celebrate our programme's third birthday on September 15th - we're hosting a big event in central London - and we'd love it if you could join us! Don't worry, they'll be a licensed bar.

WHO?! We'll have an evening of interesting things featuring...
    Kate Russell from BBC Click
Young Atheist Handbook Author Alom Shaha - not talking about his book, but performing some MAGIC.
Guardian Blogger Martin Robbins on Why The Daily Mail Is Evil!
Pod Delusion regular Drew Rae offering us some Risk Assessment for the Apocalypse!
'Skeptic' Magazine editor Deborah Hyde on the Psychology of the Supernatural!
and fire scientist Claire Benson- who hopefully won't be burning down Conway Hall!
    ...with MORE to be announced!
WHERE?! The lovely folks at the, er, spiritual home of British secularism, Conway Hall are letting us put on the show in their massive hall. (Nearest Tube: Holborn)
WHEN?! Starting at 7:30pm on the evening of Saturday September 15th - don't worry, we're planning this to not clash with the Secular Europe March if you're going on that. Doors from 7.
    HOW?! Tickets are £5!

This is an important event, given the recent challenges made by aspiring theocrats to push back secular values and the spineless acquiescence of elements of the Left. A visible and vociferous pro-secular movement is an essential part in maintaining the liberties most of us take for granted.

^Good find. Thanks to those who came along: ateapotist, Pariah, ThinkFree and ChinaDoll. Weather was beautiful, the BHA choir was just amazing (eh Chinadoll?) and the Pod Delusion party after was a kick ass geek fest.

To those of you without uber important other stuff to be doing who could have come but didn't...ten hail marys and an hour of self-flagellation. Seriously, get up of your bloody asses and represent. The fantastic Survivor's Voice Europe group, who represent survivors of clerical child abuse, have been selected as the recipients of this year's non-prophet week - a country wide fund raising appeal run by the Federation of Atheist, Humanist and Secularist Student Societies. It would be fantastic if the CEMB could get selected for this but...it won't. And the reason it won't is because people from all over Europe, some with severe disabilities make the trip to London for events like this and represent and support their organisations and causes. And for the CEMB, the majority of people, particularly from this forum just don't make the effort. Most the of speakers yesterday came with a whole bunch of people to support and cheer them on. We had Nahla speaking on behalf of the CEMB and OLFA and it would have been good, really the very least we can do, if a decent number of CEMBers came out to support her. Try harder next time!

If I lived in England I would be at every single event, I swear. Don't care if I had to hitchhike and eat cheap noodles, this stuff is too important. I'd be there.
