  • Hey there!
     OP - February 21, 2013, 09:17 PM

Im so glad I found this forum. I thought people like me didnt exist. Thrilled to find a place full of murtads and kafirs!

Im a 24 year old Algerian woman, born and raised in a muslim family. I was practicing and wore hijab til the age of 19, when I moved out. This upset my parents greatly, but they have learned to live with it. My mother still occasionally takes this up with me and tries to make me wear hijab and so on. But they are really a lot more tolerant than what I thought.

What they dont know is that I've left Islam and been an atheist for 5 years. After I started reading and studying Islam more critically, I felt I couldnt reconcile myself with it. I felt it made life harder for women like me and it made us servants of men. I found leaving Islam liberating and Im generally happier now than as a muslim. I've kept this secret to myself and two other friends.  It is really risky for me to reveal it more. I dont want to dissapoint my family even more either. So Im really glad I've found more people I could share my thoughts with.

    Hello and welcome.

Yes there are lots of people here with a little secret Smiley

Wow, I'm so glad to see Algerian murtads! Smiley
Welcome here. Don't worry, you're not alone. Keep that in mind.  parrot
I also admire you, it must not have been easy for you to take off the hijab especially in an islamic country like Algeria.

I've seen that sentence sooooo many times over the past 5 years from new members.

Once upon a time I thoughtI was the only one too.

It saddens me to think there are far more out there who may spend years - or their whole life - thinking they are the only one.

    Hello and welcome parrot

Yup, there's a lot of murtads running around it seems. Us boring old kaffir aren't very common on this forum compared to the murtads, but I'm sure that's fine Tongue

First of all - Welcome to Ines!

Second of all. Maybe CEMB should have some kind of campaign with posters (if they have funds) - Which says something simple as: "Left Islam? You Are Not Alone!"

    ^That's a good idea.

I'm glad you've found us Ines, especially since you live in an Islamic society. Hopefully this place can serve as a sanctuary away from all the religion that surrounds you IRL. Have a bunny and a parrot

I agree. Something that says you are not alone, you are not crazy, you are not wrong. You are RIGHT ON, and here's why...

We'd love to do stuff like this. It comes down to resources and time and manpower. Unlike da'wah organisations with funding, we're basically running on voluntary  work.

If anyone has skills, ideas, designing, video making skills, it would all help get the message across.

That is the gist of the video I'm working on for Allat. I think it's far more useful to let people who are doubting Islam to know that they are not alone and that they are actually correct.

It sounds brilliant. And the positive message and tone is something we definitely should try and get out there.

Along with 'you're not alone' perhaps you could add:

You're not evil or bad for questioning Islam, nor are you stubborn or arrogant for having doubts.

    You won't go to hell.

    Hell doesn't exist.

A god who is both the most merciful of those who show mercy and tortures his creation without end is an impossibility. Such a god does not exist.

    You have nothing to fear.
