    Christianity has its origins partially in Zoroastrianism in fact.

    Dawkins once commented on this very statement, and he found the idea patronising that (I am paraphrasing here) "Well, 'we intellectuals' know religion is untrue but we have to keep propping it up for the poor and uneducated".

    He claimed, and I agree with him, that such a claim is condescending and very rude to (so-called) 'non-intellectuals' (amongst whom I consider myself) and most probably untrue.

    The clip I mention begins at 1:50, and at first it seems that Dawkins (to groans from the audience)  adheres to this elitist claim, until you realise he is quoting the claim, and then goes on to eviscerate it in the way only Dawkins can do.
