Sorry if this has been covered already.

One of my reasons for leaving Islam is that I don't agree with the harsh punishments for sex before marriage (lashes) and adultery (stoning.) I think the punishments are unjustified and way OTT for a natural/loving even, act between two consenting adults.

On the other hand it seems sex before marriage and adultery is fine as long as the woman is a slave. Is this a correct interpretation of the verse below:

4:24 And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

Hello lena .. welcome to CEMB., ....sex....

That subject so important, there will not be any life any human being without that on this earth. So even if it was discussed before there is nothing wrong to discuss such important subjects again...

And do you think that is only the problem in Islam? and is that problem is not problem in other religions? what is your opinion on that lena..

Yes, you don't have to get married to have sex with a slave.

also, if that surprises you, then you should also look into mut'ah marriage, where you get married for three days minimum just to have sex, or misyar marriage, which is sort of a "no frills" marriage, also done so that muslims could have sex.

"marriage" in islam is a joke.

I gave this as a reason for leaving Islam to a Muslim. He was so shocked, and wanted to know where I was "getting all this from". Then I thought, where am I getting all of this, have I just made this up? Hence the reason for my post.

It's definitely not made up. Muhammad himself had sex with maria. He never married her. Some say rayhana was the same case too.

Thanks Kephas. I don't think this is common knowledge, my friend who converted to Islam was so shocked when I told her that slavery is allowed in Islam even though she had supposedly read the quran before converting.
