Scenario; let's say all the churches, mosques, synagogues, gurdwaras, temples etc in your country closed down, permanently, what do you think should be done with all the buildings and land ?

I think they should be 'converted' into something that could actually help people e.g. housing for the homeless

I don't know what should be done, but I'm willing to bet that the physical beneficiaries of any such mass expropriation will be states.

How such states will choose to profit from these new assets will probably have more to do with whether primo real estate deals can be had than anything else.

The really big, grandiose ones in the center of cities should be used as museums, theaters, or civic / administration buildings.

I share Tonyt's idea. For smaller buildings I would support conversion to low income housing, community centers and charity centers

I can think of hundreds of uses - depending on their design. Mosques are ideal for ballroom dancing clubs becuase of the open central hall. Hindu temples can be turned in to theatres because usually they have stage. Churches can become libraries. Synagogues can be drinking bars. The possibilities are immense. The lands can be used as parks or sports fields etc.
