    The way everyone asks everyone else if they are fasting feels hypocritical to me.

    Have I misunderstood something?

    Asking/bragging about fasting/charity is hypocritical?
    `But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

     `You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
