And [I swear by] the moon when it is full, you will mount up stage by stage! What is the matter with them, that they have no faith? (Qur'an, 84:18-20)

After referring to the Moon, the above verses then say that people will mount up stage by stage. The term tarkabunna comes from the verb rakiba, (to mount, walk on a path, follow, embark upon, set about, participate, or rule). In the light of these meanings, it is very likely that the expression "you will mount up stage by stage" refers to a vehicle to be boarded.

Indeed, the astronauts' spacecraft pass through each layer of the atmosphere one by one, and then begin to pass through the Moon's gravitational field. Thus, the Moon is reached by moving through individual layers. In addition, the swearing by the Moon in Surat al-Inshiqaq 18 further strengthens this emphasis, meaning that the verse may well be a sign that humanity will travel to the Moon.

As far as I remember this verse is translated differently by other translators, and it doesn't hint to the fact that one day mankind will be able to land on the moon. These so-called miracle verses or prophetic verses are always adapted to current findings, strange isn't it?

Would you care to provide the original arabic text please?  It is often argued that the English version of the quran does not convey the message accurately.  Especially when it comes to very controversial passages..  If so I should assume that it applies to all passages....

By the way, could the stages and the moon be symbolising something rather than having a literal meaning?    To be honest the passage sounds quite vague..

After all the lunar cycle may also be considering as having stages... You have the new moon going through several 'phases' until it reaches the full moon and the cycle starts again.

    Oh God

It is so sad that you need crappy see through vague in and out "miracles" to stick to your faith

Why cant you take it on belief alone? Why cant you leave science alone?

    Bloody idiots.

Go to (Tanzil website)  which it is the best Quran Arabic/English explorer. You can search by word or select the surah by number.

Edit: By the way if you are a Native Arabic speaker, then you can leave it on Arabic and just hover over the verse and a bubble containing the English translation will appear.

And they rakiba (follow) those stages, with the lunar calender.
