Honour killing victim's parents refuse to testify
    Published: 5 Jan 09 13:58 CET

The parents of the German-Afghan victim of an ?honour killing? by her brother last year refused to testify in a Hamburg court on Monday. Meanwhile state prosecutors have also accused her father of abuse.

The 24-year-old Ahmad-Sobair O. is on trial after admitting to police that he killed his 16-year-old sister Morsal O. on May 23, 2008 because she had turned away from her family. The girl died after suffering 23 stab wounds in a Sankt Georg district parking lot. Both siblings, who immigrated to Germany 13 years ago, have German citizenship.

The two parents of the family, as well as the girl?s younger brother refused to testify. Her sister is scheduled to testify on Monday afternoon.

Before she was murdered, Morsal O. had been seen by emergency youth services on several occasions, suffering from pressures by her family, which did not approve of her Western lifestyle.

Her brother had already been prosecuted for assaulting her and others. He was sentenced in March on an assault charge to one year and five months without possibility of probation. He had requested his March sentence be deferred, but was notified in writing - a day before the stabbing - that the request had been rejected.

Now state prosecutors have accused her 46-year-old father of abusing the girl in May 2008, a spokesperson told news agency DDP on Monday.

A series of six honour killings - including the shooting at a bus stop of 23-year-old Turkish woman Hatun S?r?c? in Berlin - shook Germany in 2005. S?r?c?'s youngest brother, Ayhan S?r?c?, later confessed to killing her because he did not approve of her Western lifestyle.

oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!"

At least her sister is going to testify, but as to the rest of her family, they deserve to be punished alongside the brother, for aiding and abetting through silence, this crime.  finmad

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

In this instance, you might be too harsh, Berbs - there is no proof, so far, that they told him to do it... and he IS their son/brother, just like she was their daughter/sister... it?s not as if testifying against him would bring her back, is it? Must be VERY bad for the parents, if they aren?t in on the crime... Cry

No, I don't think I am being hard, I would testify against my brother if he killed my sister, he would cease to be worth defending.

I'm not implying they told him to do it, just angry at how they do not think justice needs to be served.

Oh, justice will be served. There?s not the slightest doubt he did it and will be sentenced. In fact, their testimony could even rather help him get a lower sentence, than otherwise... there is an element of tragedy in the whole affair, though. Apparently, he and his sister had a love-hate relationship, he felt overprotective .... they did love one another and in a VERY twisted way, his killing her was an act of love. don?t get me wrong-  it is absolutely horrible and wrong all the same, and must be punished - as it will be.

Isn't that what motivates all honour killings though?

Well I look forward to the justice that awaits him, lets hope he gets a harsh sentence, I have no pity for him.

no, I don?t think it?s always the same. Here, there doesn?t seem to have been a family-court, deciding "the whore must die" to wash away the stain on "family honour". Just a very confused and f?ed up young man, who couldn?t find a place in life, and turned to violence. Doesn?t mean he couldn?t or shouldn?t have realised, that what he did was wrong. Very wrong. Neither of them could let go, though - she always of her own accord went back to the family, though she left again and again, and got offered safe places and intervention. As I said - tragedy.

his killing her was an act of love.

What kind of love is that?

If you love somebody set them free. Don't kill them for your warped sense of virtue.

Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik

Well, I just read a German article... apparently, the mother is heartbroken and could hardly speak in court, because she was crying so hard - all she said was, "What could I say? I lost two children"... and the killing brother also keeps weeping. Man, life is soooo f?ed up sometime!  Cry

Just killing a family member denotes a strong probability of a mental issue. Stabbing the family member 23 times? That is the by the book definition of a mental issue. The kid was a looney, like probably most of those who proceed to murder a family member. Now I am not excusing islam from creating a system where it places men as guardians and leaders over women, with no other criteria to justify, other then some Y chromosome. But the guy is probably a loon. And his tears in court are very possibly for real.

Still I support the harshest sentence possible, preferably getting locked up life in a mental institution after finishing a shortened sentence.

At issue, is the amount of fear that ALL women in that society will live in. Knowing what could happen to them if they do not obey. Knowing how much cheaper it is for a husband to kill his wife then to pay alimony.

And for each murder, Thousands of lesser cases of violence and near-misses and abuses would have taken place. I am going to go on a limb and state that the honor killer never graduates to murder from a society that treats their women well.

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"
