    I jsut stumbled upon a page about Jean Meslier...who was supposedly a Catholic priest alive between 1664 and 1729. They found some of his philosophical writings promoting atheism?

    This is the first time I've heard of this! It's usually believers arguing that Darwin (and other scientists) were in fact theists.

    Does anybody have any information on this guy? The Wikipedia article on him isn't very detailed as to his beliefs on Catholicism - since he was a priest and all...

    He was too afraid to come out while he was alive. They were not too fond of atheists back then.
