  • Attacks on Women in bars in India
     OP - January 28, 2009, 07:15 PM

Members of Right wing groups have been attacking women in bars. Mr Mutalik says it is "not acceptable" for women to go to bars in India.

..."Television pictures showed the men chasing and beating up the panicking women - some wearing skirts. Some of the women, who tripped and fell, were kicked by the men."...

Women's groups have strongly condemned the attack which has been described by the country's Women's Minister Renuka Chaudhury as an attempt to impose Taleban-style values.

We have a problem with women binge drinking in the UK; maybe the ministers should consider some Indian style tactics.

I can sympathize with some of these British women. If I had to deal with what sometimes passes for a British man, I'd drink too  Roll Eyes

I'd love to have seen 'em try to attack a bunch of pissed up British women. Their traditionalist nuts would have been tied around their necks in a trice. The police would've been summoned to grant them a safe retreat.

Hello Mr sojourner the english teacher,

I have a question for you, what is the difference of a Traditionalist and a Fundamentalist ?

Well, in this case, as I see it, Traditionalists get 'em tied around their necks and 'Fundamentalists' have 'em sewed into their mouths afterwards.

Good. It's the best way to learn. Given the right cues, if you have to put 2+2 together yourself, you never forget.
But, down to business. Great to be challenged once in a while - keeps you on your toes.
Fundamentalism = Maintainance, in opposition to modernisation of traditional orthodox beliefs (such as the inerrancy of scripture).
Traditionalism = Excessive respect for tradition (esp in religion).
The difference in degree is very subtle.

But I believe that Traditionalist can bend/break the rules whereas the Fundamentalist will not.
