  • Hijab burning
     OP - March 14, 2009, 03:36 PM

On the Women?s Interational Day, the 8th of March, inspired by the bra burning of the sixties, a Syrian/Norwegian Muslima, called Sara Azmeh Rasmussen, publicly burned her hijab. She was pelted with snowballs by furious Muslimas and has also received a death threat.

    You go Sara.

Like a compass needle that points north, a man?s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always.

    She's got guts.

And she lives in a society/country that still values free speech.

I just found out, not only is she burning a hijab, but she's also an outed Lesbian. WOW

Double slap for the raging Islamists.

"Sara Azmeh Rasmussen, a Norwegian of Syrian origin burns a hijab in March 2009 on International Women's Day to protest against repression of women in Islam.

She calls herself a cultural Muslim and outed herself as lesbian in early 2008."

Wow, that is something! She better be more careful though.

Anyways, I think she is cool looking with that short hair.

Bravo to this brave woman. She's got balls! I love it! More women in Muslim countries need to take a stand against institutionalized sexism.

It's always the dykes that lead the way, eh?  Punk

You've been brainwashed by the patriarchy, luv. Balls = courage. Therefore no balls = no courage. bunny

Yeah but saying "she has tits" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Grin

I agree. I'm a frequent user of the term She got BALLS of steel or He got BALLS of steel... there's something very immediate and powerful. And I refuse to believe the patriarchy in any way. Balls also = Ovaries, my dear.  yes

Fantastic stuff!  Is this the fuse that sparks the main event I wonder? It's encouragingly redolent of the 60s and that really set the chins wagging.
