  • Abdul Hakim Murad's "Thought for the Day"
     OP - September 16, 2009, 09:25 AM

Listening to Radio 4 as I was driving in to work today, guess who I hear presenting "Thought for the Day"?

Yes, my old friend Abdul Hakim Murad lol

It was quite "interesting" on many levels  grin12

This is the pod cast if you want to listen.

BBC podcasts are a nightmare on my connection. Any chance of a synopsis?

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

That's a pretty unique position to take for a muslim. I can't think of very man who didn't believe in them.

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

I was never keen on conspiracy theories - and I know quite a few that also don't believe in them - but, yes, without doubt most Muslims are given to conspiracy theories and that is probably why AHM chose this - on the occasion of the launching of Dan Brown's book 'the lost key'.

I dont understand statements like 'I was never keen on conspiracy theories' - you mean you NEVER question the media stories? Isn't it a bit like saying 'I was never keen on finding out more or looking at things in a diff light'? I mean, yes, it would make a lot of sense with you Hass, and would explain a lot as far as accepting the easy answer, no offence ol' chum Smiley

Conspiracy theories are not the same thing as questioning or critical analysis of the stories you see in the media though.  Conspiracy theorists are like creationists - they start from the premise that they already know The Truth, selectively pick, (or even fabricate), evidence to suit themselves, and then cast anyone who disagrees with them as a government programmed sheep who can't see "the truth".  In their own way the average conspiracy theorist is every bit as narrow minded and gullible as someone who believes everything they read in the Daily Mail.  They just believe everything they read on Prison Planet and the like instead.

I'm not sure about that description. It seems to work both ways, too. If I say 'I don't know if I believe x, y or z' - some bright spark will always say, 'so you're a bit of a conspiracy theorist are you?' - and it's NO, I just don't believe. I've heard Hass discuss this before many times and I think my observation is correct.

    Ha Ha.

Maybe.  I don't know what Hass means when he says conspiracy theories, but I've always understood the term the way I described.  Like the "birfers" who will remain utterly convinced Obama was born in Kenya no matter how much evidence they are shown to the contrary.  Somebody who just doesn't know if they believe x, y or z is more of a skeptic than a conspiracy theorist.

Yeah, I know the type Cheetah, and yes, they're annoying and make it bad for people who genuinely question the official line.
