I hope Rashna hasn't been banned. I wna see her response to this thread.

Why, so you can gloat at her supposed humiliation ?

You know schadenfreude is not a very nice thing.

I respect Zoroastrianism. It's such an ancient and noble religion. I respect and admire all religions that are extinct and no longer bother us. But seriously, I'm a big Persophile and a love everything to do with Iranian civilization and culture.

I think the imagery and symbols of Zoroastrianism are pretty epic stuff:

Relief from Taq-e Bostan showing Ardashir II at the center receiving his crown from Ahura Mazda. The two stand on a prostrate enemy. At the left is Mithra as a priest, wearing a crown of sun-rays, holding a priest's barsam, and standing on a sacred lotus

I love the Farvahar, really beautiful symbol, from Persepolis:

This is a really good book about the great Persian empires and also notes the evolution of Zoroastrianism into a state religion of the Sassanid Empire.

It's great that a talibanesque style of rule never destroyed things like this.  ^^^  very cool.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Here's a better image of the ardashir relief:

The above image is called the "investiture of ardashir". Basically the Sassanids used to incorporate Zoroastrian religious concepts very tightly with the imperial state. So all the Shahs used to consider themselves divinely mandated by ahura mazda and the prophet mithras or zoroaster. This idea was directly imported into Islam (medieval islamic kingdoms were pretty much based on persian ideals) so instead of Ahura Mazda and Mithras, the sultan would seek an "investiture" (ie official right to rule) from the Caliph who was the viceroy of Allah on earth.

Basically speaking, Zoroastrianism and it's relation to imperial Persia directly influenced medieval Islam.

    EDIT:

Also if you look at the bottom of the stone relief you'll notice dead bodies under the foot of the Shah and Ahura Mazda. Even Zoroastrianism associated their religion with the vanquishing of enemies of both the Shah and of God. Islam did not invent religious warfare.

Damn Zoraster & Zorastrianism - all the worlds monontheistic religions owe their the f*ck ups to Zorastrianism.

I wonder if World War 2 would have happened if it werent for the religious predjudices that were borne out of Ahura Mazda, and his dainty band of fire worshippers.  Whilst they were worshipping combustion, a poor 3 million Jews were being combusted.

No, so I can see her view on these customs and rituals but now you mentioned it, I don't think she would waste a second to laugh at my expense besides she never goes into detail about her views on her culture (only the good aspects).
