  • How old is your ear?
     OP - April 04, 2010, 11:06 PM

    http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/

What frequency can you guys hear 'till? I managed to get as high as 18khz, not bad for a 21 year old  cool2

I'm think I might use this as an anti-kid mechanism...

EDIT: This is a better test: http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/hearing.html
(Also keep in mind that your hearing can fluctuate daily)

18khz, and VERY little of 19khz.
Though on my headphones I hear up to 21khz, probably because it alters the frequency or something.

I think this thing relies on the quality of the speakers/headphones in use.

omg my hearing is so bad, lol can just about manage to 17Hz. No suprise since I listen to music alot and watch films with earphones on lots and on my laptop most of my life which makes a lound noise constantly, plus at university the labs always very very noisy.

    EDIT: 17khz lol not hz

With my wireless headphones: 18 kHz

With my elite wired headphones: 21 kHz (but very faint)

    And I am 32.
So I think it's bullshit Tongue

It isn't bullshit. With age, the detectable range of frequences reduce.

    I struggled after 20khz

Haha, the Ipod generation's ears are gna be fucked. I'm not going to take the test, I already know my hearing is shit lol. My teacher actually made a prediction that with many young people especially in the UK there will be a hearing epidemic and soon there will be many young people wearing hearing aids as early as they're late twenties! All this related to the punishing volumes on our Ipods and from the music we hear in clubs.

Yup. Its stupid that people listen to music that loud. I have tinnitus, which is ringing in the ears. Its very mild in my case, but going to nightclubs all the time can make it worse. Thats why I steer clear of loud places like that.

I'm 18 and could hear them all - phew. I thought my hearing sucked.
  • Re: How old is your ear?

My laptop has f***ed up speakers, so it only had up to 17.4 making a noice, I put in headphones and could hear them all, no problem. I'm 20.

It is not the way you live your life that is important, it is how well you enjoy it that matters.
