  • Are there ex-muslims on here who are still deists?
     OP - April 14, 2010, 10:02 AM

The ' how can something come out of nothing ' thread  got me  wondering if any on here had rejected Islam as a religion but still believe there is some intellingent being responsible. Or did the rejection of Islam come as a result of your atheism or agnosticism ?

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

My rejection of Islam came after learning of its barbaric teachings. Atheism was just the next logical step. As far as I'm concerned, I won't believe in any higher beings until I've seen evidence.

I am not worried at all, because there would never be a god, who will punish me for not believing in him when there is not a single convincing evidence of his existance, and deserves to be worshiped after that.

I'm not a deist, but an atheistic-pantheist. Deism still allows for a creator god and I reject that notion. Theism adds to that deistic creator god, the idea of a personal god, I reject that notion too. Atheism is a rejection of both those. Pantheism is an acknowledgement of the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. I use it to show what I am *for*, while I use the label atheism to show what I'm not for.

Agnostic. There probably was some creation to lead to the big bang but i absolutely don't believe in a designer god or the god of Abraham. Given our knowledge of evolution of life and cosmos i see no reason to believe we are any special.

Special.  Hmmm.  For me the 5 mass extinctions mostly caused by being smacked by comets from outer orbit, just show how how unprotected we really are.

I consider my self a kinda agnostic(5%)-atheist (95%), the problem with deism in my humble opinion is that it still does not answer how did "that" intelligence come. Plus as far as i know most deists think its only one again it might be a collection of deities that collaborated to create our universe just like we humans collaborate to create a car, but again i am projecting our human thought in deities. Apparently we need to discover physical laws that will help us understand that better. Lets see what happens....

Agnosticism/Atheism seems to me the only position one can really defend.

If there turns out to be a God - he sure as hell can't fault them.

But he'll be seriously pissed at all the fuckwits who put stupid words in his mouth.

I asked this question becuase I realised I just assumed that most folk on here would be one or the other and it may not be the case.
Personally Im 999.8 %  atheist ,I think if there is a creator it will be nothing as anyone could imagine , probably  not even have a 'mind'  and if it nioticed us at all it would be like  the grand canyon realising there was a spec of dust it hadnt noticed before.

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

not a deist, i'm atheist but i do believe there could be something more to us, but not a god-like thing that tells us we are wrong/right, or hell/heaven. i mean i've seen a ghost before, and believe in those.
but in terms from whatever religion/holy books, there is no "god" persey

i was agnostic after leaving islam when I was 16,only came to the conclusion I was atheist in the past 3/4 months.

lol my friend told me once, I'm agnostic generally but an atheist when it comes to the Abrahamic faiths because sure as hell that version of God doesn't exist.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?
