You've got a lot of material to get through - I recommend watching Hassans/mine/rationalizers vids when you need a break.  Links to them should be in our profiles (although hassans are currently being hosted by  CEMBadmins on youtube)

Perfect - I feel like I want to be fair on myself; I was born a Muslim and just did what others told me to. This time round, I want to understand what you guys are saying, and believe it for that reason, rather than just "to not be a muslim" - if that makes any sense. In this way I can justify my 'apostasy' as they would call it. I'm glad to have a lot of information to go through, I have lots of free time, and now something purposeful to use it for

Is Ibn Warraq's "Why I am not a Muslim" any good?

Of course, come to your conclusions independently.  Although I can pretty much guarantee that by the time you get through those blogs, you will never go back to Islam.  The facts in them are backed by references so you can go verify them indepently for yourself.

The time lost will only be a fraction of the time wasted in being a proper believer for the rest of your life.

No, Ive heard its biased & polemic from other ex-muslims, but it was the first book of its kind so it has its own place in history.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I'm in the USA.  I don't have much of a bio.  I'm not an ex Muslim, I'm an ex Christian ( Mormon ) missionary who chills out with these guys and gals now. My emphasis for international relations was Latin America where I lived a few years.

Getting out of mormonism is supposed to be almost as bad as leaving Islam, how bad was it for you?

Be interesting to read your bio if you ever have the time and inclination to write one, you're the only ex-Mormon we've ever had on the forum.
