  • Pissed off at Muhammad
     OP - November 07, 2010, 03:24 AM

    Hi all,

I just came across this website and I am glad that there are people in this world who think beyond religion and believe in humanity. Anyways I am heartbroken and need advice. I cannot marry someone whom I am in love with for 10 freakin years. We both have Muslim backgrounds but the issue is my family converted to Christianity from Islam and his parents are devout Muslims. What should I do now? He thinks that Islam is the uncorrupted word of God. Well I don't really care about religion but his mom and dad are totally against our marriage. We have know each other since we were teenagers. We can't live without each other. What should we do now?

How does he feel about getting married to you? Is he more religious or more laxed?

Also there is an intro thread where you can introduce yourself and the members can get to know you

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

If he thinks Islam is the "uncorrupted word of god", is that really the kind of guy you want to marry, the kind of guy who believes it is okay to hit women? That women are the property of men?

He's not religious at all but he thinks that Quran is the word of God. But the point is I am freakin in love with him and this is his last year in Med school. I am so fed up fightin over this stupid issue. I told my mom after I am done with finishing up my studies. I am taking my CPA exams in couple of months. I am leaving US and moving to UK hehhe....I just wanna get the hell outta here for a while.

Actually he doesn't believe in wife beating and shit like that ..he actually asked me if i am ever gonna beat him up hehe.. anyways he thinks that Jihad is actually an inner struggle. The problem is he does not know his religion that well. He would have left it long time ago if he knew what Islam is all about..

Sounds like most Muslims and me when I was a Muslim, too.

Learning about 4:34 made me leave Islam. I had no idea about that verse throughout my Muslim life. Inform him about that verse, and see what he says. Someone did that to me, and my first reaction was to blame it on mistranslations, so make sure you are prepared with all the reliable sources.

Anyway, welcome to the forums! I wish you all the best with you and your boyfriend. I wish I could be more help. Someone here will surely chime in with great advice. <3

Tell him to take a hike, unless he is willing to raise your kids as non-muslims or at least in an open-minded fashion, a great litmus test as to his intentions & way of thinking

I am leaving US and moving to UK hehhe....

Although we have really good friends from UK in this forum, but do you really think you can leave all the luxuries of life of US and move to UK, where you would have to share a small apartment with 6 other people?

Be very very careful if you directly attack islam like that. Choose your words very carefully. Otherwise you might end up losing him if he get offended about the religion.

I assume you mean "non-muslim" - I imagine he would prefer to raise kids muslim.

Great advice.  Afro My friend never once made me feel attacked. He made it more about him being confused about the things he found when he was trying to learn about my religion.
