  • New Article on Muhammad's "Night Journey" and its Palestinian Context
     OP - October 20, 2015, 04:28 PM

I finished a draft article that argues Q 17:1 (traditionally interpreted as relating Muhammad's night journey) should be analyzed as an interpolated polemic that sought to draw a biographical parallel between Muhammad and Jesus, adapting the concept of 'spiritual pilgrimage' from 5th/6th century anti-Chalcedonian Christian tradition.  Any comments, critiques, corrections of glaring errors (especially!), curses, etc. would be appreciated!

As a bonus, I conclude with a theory of why the Qur'an commends pilgrimage to bakka (rather than Mecca), explaining that this Qur'anic oddity should again be understood in connection with anti-Chalcedonian pilgrimage tradition.

    Danke.  Link below.
