  • Celebrating Muhammads birthday
     OP - February 27, 2011, 02:36 PM

This occasion is being celebrated a lot more in recent years.  Miwlid an-Nabi or Milad an-Nabi or whatever you want to call it has certainly grown in popularity.

Right now in Birmingham (and other cities) there are huge crowds of Muslim men and women on the streets waving green flags.  Rather than worshiping in mosques or at home like we do in Ramadan, this occasion encourages Muslims to take to the streets in what seems to be an excuse to shove Islam in peoples faces.

Scholars are divided as to whether celebrating Muhammads birthday is permissible.  I've noticed that some of my family members have jumped on the Milad an-Nabi bandwagon and they want to join in the silly celebrations too and I'm trying to convince them that celebrating Muhammads birthday isn't actually permissible.  The last thing I want is yet another annual religious occasion!

Saw a big get together at Aston Hall park by the Villa ground last year. The green flags and everything.

Big show of support and power for Mo there.

Billy that's precisely what happened today at it was being broadcast live on satellite channel 819.  I blame the Dawat-E-Islami type groups for the recent hype surrounding this event.

The level of love and almost worship directed towards Muhammad makes you wonder if Islam really is a monotheistic religion.

Yeah, for the Dawat-E-Islami types its a big thing to have any public display of religiosity like this, great dawah.

And that is the reason why the Salafis HATE it.

By the way Shahid, Birmingham just won the Carling Cup, wonder if there'll be a soundclash between blues fans going mental in Sparkhill and momins with green flags celebrating Mo's birthday Grin

Celebrations all round in Birmingham then.  Let's hope they keep it separate though.

The Milad an-Nabi celebrations are almost coming to an end.  There were even fireworks.  They're saying it's going to be even bigger next year...  mysmilie_977
