The Telegraph: Police 'covered up' violent campaign to turn London area 'Islamic'.

    Quote from: The Telegraph
The mosque is controlled by a fundamentalist group, the Islamic Forum of Europe, which says that it is dedicated to changing the “very infrastructure of society, its institutions, its culture, its political order and its creed ... from ignorance to Islam.”

The IFE’s community affairs co-ordinator, Azad Ali, is chairman of the Muslim Safety Forum, an organisation officially recognised by the Met as its “principal [liaison] body in relation to Muslim community safety.” Mr Golds said: “This relationship may explain the police’s feebleness.” The IFE also has close links to the Tower Hamlets mayor, Mr Rahman.

There is no suggestion that any mosque official has been personally involved in any act of violence or intimidation. However, in an email obtained by The Sunday Telegraph, one IFE activist, Abu Talha, used the name of the group to threaten a local Muslim woman who ran a dating agency.

“I am asking you kindly to stop these activities as it goes against the teachings of Islam,” he wrote. “Let me remind you that I have a huge network of brothers and sisters who would be willing to help me take this further…If by tomorrow you haven’t changed your mind … then the campaign will begin.” The dating agency has now closed and the woman has left the area.

    Obvious caveats:

    1. It's in the Telegraph, a once excellent paper now engaged in a race to the bottom.
    2. It's written by the moderately dubious Andrew Gilligan.

That said, does the not-especially-subtle finger-pointing at IFE and its associated goons have much basis in reality?

What happens when you inject the most reactionary, crude, tribalistic, misogynistic, bigoted, supremacist religious ideology into a closed community in a small geographic area?

    You have your answer here.

The purpose of the Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Forum is to:

        * Provide a forum for agencies to share information, best practice and keep open communication about hate crime issues.
        * Monitor and analyse data on reported hate crime and incidents in the borough.
        * Focus on turning policy into action – measuring outcomes and performance.
        * Build the capacity of local statutory and voluntary organisations to deliver services and provide support to individual victims and communities.
        * Encourage agencies to raise and share local issues affecting residents, employers, employees and visitors in Tower Hamlets.
        * Act as a hub for activity on race and hate crime issues – recognised for consultation and support.
        * Give feedback on hate crime issues to the Tower Hamlets Partnership via the Council’s Living Safely Community Plan Action Group.

The forum has an agreed annual action plan of projects and initiatives in place that contributes to the borough’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy. Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Forum is a sub-group of the Living Safely Community Plan Action Group.

If you are interested in finding out more or becoming a member of the Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Forum, please contact Nazma Begum on 020 7364 6120.

I am sure in the town at the top end you have the leaders who have softened attitude on Muslims on Muslim crime  specially if the victim is not so good Muslim., such as a guy with no beard or a girl with no Burkha/hijab/niqab.,

Just had a look on their website:

ISLAMIC FORUM OF EUROPE: RESPONDING TO THE CALL

For hundreds of years Muslims have contributed to European culture, science, education and arts. Over the last century Muslims from diverse backgrounds have settled in Western Europe; the majority, arriving with a basic understanding of Islam have had mixed fortunes. Some of the second and third generation are rapidly losing their identity - spiralling downwards towards crime and social degradation. Others are rediscovering Islam and are asserting an identity that is at ease with both Islam and living in Britain and Europe. Furthermore, a host of her people are entering Islam and making it their way of Life.

Islam offers a comprehensive system and the challenge to us all is to learn and embody the teachings of Islam and convey them to others in a wise, sensible and beautiful manner. Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE) helps to enable individuals to learn and apply the basic tools required to achieve this within a collective framework helping to develop the Muslim community and benefit the wider society.

Ohhh, so THAT'S what they're doing!

It's difficult to know what basis any of these stories have in reality - within each group there are varying levels of zeal. I read an article by IFA which condemned the threats against Usama Hassan for believing in evolution, so I think we have to take everything with a pinch of salt...

I will take The Telegraph's story with a pinch of salt, but there is a problem in Tower Hamlets and has been for years.  Their local council seems to feature in virtually every issue of Private Eye magazine for their corrupt activities and harrassment of any council official who tries to clean things up.

There is no question that the Telegraph is a reactionary right wing rag , but there's hardly any nrrd for exaggeration when it comes to Tower Hamlets , or the revolting IFE. Just in the past month or so we've had four men convicted of a severe assault on a religious studies teacher (for daring to talk about islam in his lessons without actually being muslim) , a worker in a local chemists shop harrassed and threatened for daring to do her job without draping herself in the 'correct clothing' , and " Gay free zone under allah" stickers plastered all over the borough. (That's just the ones that came to mind immediately I read this , there are a lot more)
The sad thing is that a year ago , after the election , it actually looked as if things were looking up in TH . With Galloway and his cronies kicked out , Fitzpatrick triumphing over a typically nasty Respect campaign against him , a decent MP (Rushnara Ali) elected in Bethnal Green , and Respect virtually wiped out in the council elections , I was genuinely optimistic . But the Labour Party's idiocy gave the clowns back in and we're back to the same old nonsense ....
Lutfur Rahman's latest wheeze is to campaign for city status for TH .I dread to think what that might lead to
