  • Good horror movies worth watching?

Are there any good horror movies out there? List your favorite ones here. The only horror movie I've seen is Fright Night which sucked, and The IT which also sucked.

    Misery (1990)

Depends on what you prefer in a horror movie... I'm guessing you're not looking for the slasher type gore?

I love watching horror movies even though I don't scare easily. There's just something about fear and what causes it that I find really interesting and even entertaining... (no im not a psychopath)...

Anyhow, here are some movies I enjoyed:

    Session 9
    The Thing
    The Shining
    Pet Semetary
Salem's Lot (yeah I guess I have a thing for Stephen King movies)
A Tale of Two Sisters (korean film)
The Orphanage (more psychological thriller drama)
    Jacob's Ladder
    ...

Also, I hear a lot of people claim "The Exorcist" as being a classic, which i guess it is, but I'm still not a huge fan of it. I flinched more during the medical examination scenes than during the possession/exorcism...

    Insidious
    Alone in the dark
Nightmare on Elm street the first 1
    28 days later
    28 weeks later
    dawn of the dead
Let me in (although I didn't think it was scary it was a good movie)

Actually to be fair, I don't find any movie scary if its in the horror category.

I found apocalypto far more horrifying because it was a reminder of how barbaric and superstitious humankind is...even though it was a movie, anyone who has done history knows that people really did used to be that way.  People still are.  It reminded me of mob mentality.

Same as The stoning of soraya.  Again, far more horrifying since it reminds me of people happy to stand around in a crowd and condemn and murder someone in cold blood, in a fucking group.  The crowd mind is a scary thing.  Far more scary that things that don't exist.

However, back to the horror genre.  DEAD GIRL is an awesome, twisted movie that really skirts that moral line.  Anyone who hasn't seen it, should.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

For sheer physical skin-crawling terror, I recommend the Spanish film, REC. (Don't bother with the remake unless you really can't handle subtitles).

For vintage horror, the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It pretty much defined the modern horror movie template.

If you want to be brutalised and traumatised, try Eden Lake.

For something more cerebral and classy, The Silence Of The Lambs.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

I second the Spanish version of REC

The Japanese version of The Ring was fantastic too.

A REALLY good horror movie is, "Susperia"
Everything about it is QUALITY!  Even tho it scared the
crap outa me (this was in 1977 lol), I would
    watch it again.

Wrong Turn I & II were alright.

    Jeepers Creepers I & II

    Underworld I, II and III
(and they are releasing IV soon, I cant wait!)

the shining is pretty great, the scariness of it is basically watching a man go insane
orphan (more of a thriller but it's pretty spooky)
dead silence (the spook factor is a legend involving creepy dolls)

^ those are my favorite horror movies, enjoy Smiley
