More important than being positive, I think, is to be open to whatever you are feeling. Don't deny negative feelings, accept them and try to learn from them. Similarly, don't force yourself to be positive, because then you'll just become anxious about being positive all the time and that's hardly a better place to be.
Feeling negative doesn't have to be a bad thing until you make it one. We all feel negative, we have bad days, do things we aren't proud of, but the key, in my humble opinion, is to realize that it's just one strand of the vast spectrum of experience and that if you let yourself relax and not worry about how you are feeling then you may just be able to experience some other strands too.
