You thought opinions were to be challenged but then again you never challenged any.  All you did was throw out statements and respond with petty insults anytime you were asked a civil question.

Now you're insinutating that the whole forum is beneath you.  Maybe the nobodies here shouldn't be taking up your precious time.

It's not about who's right or wrong - just boredom. Ciya!

    Smite 3 for trolling.

You'll have to find someone else to insult next time you're bored.  Ciya.

    That's true, thanks. yes

But STILL.. I mean, this Demba dude (and tbh I don't watch footsyballsy so I have no idea who he is) is so NICE. Reminds me of my old Islamic Studies teacher. She was a sweetheart. A saint, I swear. yes

But I guess neither of them are debating. I don't like watching religious debates vomit so maybe that's why I don't like Hitchens and Dawkins and stuff.

    Thank you Deusvult!!! Smiley

I think you're wrong (no offence)

No offence taken. Believers do have very thin skins in general and even at his most strident Dawkins doesn't even begin to approach the incredible belligerent certainties of many believers who are held to be moderate and demanding of respect for those certainties, which involve at best unquestioned obedience to schools that marginalise and demonise those that don't agree with them.

I don't think believers have thin skins in general. I think believers (and everybody really) don't like hypocrisy, especially when someone professes to be pluralistic and welcoming and stuff, and then goes and derides other people's values.

You're making an error here. You are equating 'pluralism' with 'deriding' some values that people hold. This is an example of the kind of thin skin thing. In a pluralistic society religions are subject to scrutiny and criticism. You cannot have free conscience and belief (at the heart of true pluralism) without that.

You mention hypocrisy too. Well, it is a fair and accurate thing to say that those who hold beliefs rooted in disdain and demonisation of those who don't follow their beliefs complaining about having their own beliefs derided is a spectacular form of contradiction. It really is a colossal irony to lead a life unexamined as far as the underlying prejudices of a belief system, religion are concerned, and yet complain about the judgment of others upon that belief system.

The values that Dawkins (and other secularists) criticise in religions are precisely those values that inhibit true pluralism and tolerance.

Here is a video of Abdur Raheem Green talking about non-Muslims:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLDDENkS7Wo&feature=player_embedded

As you can see, it is sickening hatred all expressed under the veneer of religion.

A video of Abdur Raheem Green is hosted on the youtube site of the guys who interviewed Demba.

Demba is obviously a nice man. Green is a loathsome hateful bigot. The organisation that hosts these videos has as its mission statement:

"Challenging Stereotypes. Removing Misconceptions. Authentic Islam"

So here in a nutshell you have the problem. If there is a mixed message about Islam being sent out it is largely and often because organisations that wish to 'challenge stereotypes' actually promote the vile people who are responsible for creating the stereotype of intolerance in the first place.

Its actually really sad to see the complete lack of critical self awareness of these bodies and individuals.

The only other way to read this is that the bigotry of Green is authentic by their reckoning, and they are trying to exploit rhetoric about 'stereotyping' and 'diversity' in order to immunise the bigoted form of Islam that Green promotes through the usual tactic of claiming that scrutiny of it is 'stereotyping', 'Islamophobia' etc

In other words, they have no real care for pluralism, tolerance or equality except as rhetorical tools to advance the bigotry of the likes of Green under.

I don't really know what you're saying, you're writing is way too dense. :/ I understand the bolded bit though. yes So I think I get what you mean.

I still don't think believers are thin skinned. They have different values (that they follow) and then if secularists have their own values, they should follow them.

    I see. I guess that's true too.

That video is kinda repulsive.....I don't really like Green (since I saw him being anti-evolution). Is he a Salafi? :/

    Yes he is a Salafi.

I do feel sorry for those Muslims who are sincere in wanting to challenge both Salafi ideology and anti-Muslim bigotry.

But casual acceptance of this kind of mentality at best sends out a mixed-message about Islam.

I'd love it if more Muslims applied this advice to dawah merchants - where it is verbal medicine that needs to be injected urgently.
    ........

    +10 (10 is the max!)

even though watered down syariah law, calling people who's lack on belief a munafiq (hypocrite?) , while preventing em to cross over, removing the status

and yes, billy post is dense, keep it that way it's more interesting, make sense and mostly invaluable !

a munafiq is someone who outwardly pratices islam but inwardly is not..
when i use the word hypocrite, i mean it is hypocritical to promote islam as this *love thy neighbor* kind of religion.. it's not preventing anyone from "crossing over" ..
.. imo (like i said before) he is a muslim version of kirk cameron, i don't like what kirk cameron is doing either..

^^^^ The biggest lie that dawah-merchants peddle is the whole 'Islami is growing' propaganda when the reality is that its the only religion / belief system (apart from the worst kind of cult) that insists you cannot leave and enforces that through extreme societal coercion and bullying and threats, not to mention where Muslims are a majority, through the state.

People are frightened to point this out in case they are threatened themselves - not necessarily through violence. In liberal democratic societies, you can try to threaten through shaming and utilising the rhetoric of tolerance - that to point out this sinister attitude is an act of prejudice, in other words the Islamophobia hysteria. That is why they promote this kind of victimhood, because they can use it to try and shut down debate about Islam.

Reciprocity is not something that Islam is big on.

reciprocity ,  so can I say that most atheist (including me) react to this kind of victimhood, islamophobia hysteria using empathy to make em understanding is useless , no reasoning is a reason unless theirs, not to mention the verses parroting, tbh I don't know how to reason and in the end there's that watered down shariah law as a backup (in my case), I'm here in cemb to release the pent up, find people in common or with tolerance, this is the only way I know to release this anxiety others than taking medicine with numerous side effects

You'd find those sorts nearly everywhere in life The Newcastle fans have given him nothing but total support, and have even made a special Ramadan song for him.  Smiley

And, when I went up there, I thought the locals were quite friendly to be honest.

What on earth are you talking about when you ask if we're supposed to feel good for him that he is a fellow Muslim?

You have a feeling that this guy is a hypocrite? Well, that's me convinced then.  Roll Eyes

Maybe you should visit Newcastle once in a while and experience it for yourself, rather than talk complete crap. You've been here all of five minute and so far all you've done is make statements out of complete, utter ignorance. Are you Muslim or something?

And why are you getting your knickers in a twist about post that clip? I'll post whatever I fucking like.

Nonsense, Newcastle has no particular reputation like that. Newcastle fans have had black players for decades and have idolised their black players. Demba is loved by the Geordies.
