  • sabian question
     OP - April 14, 2013, 09:58 AM

It is mentioned in the Quran 3 times but there is a confusion what it actually is. They apparently read the zubur(psalms) and is a cross between Christianity, Judaism and magism(sect of Zoroastrianism.) Classical Muslims scholars have struggled to comprehend what it actually is and where it originated from. Does anyone here know what it actually is?. And it has no links to the sabeans

Can anyone provide me with a decent challenge?

yes., that word "Sabian" is indeed mentioned in Quran 3 times.. let is put those verses here for the reader..
    Quote
Chapter #2, Verse #62:  Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

Chapter #5, Verse #69: Surely, those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messenger Muhammad   and all that was revealed to him from Allah), and those who are the Jews and the sabians and the Christians, - whosoever believed in Allah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

Chapter #22, Verse #17:  Verily, those who believe (in Allah and in His Messenger Muhammad and those who are Jews, and the sabians, and the Christians, and the Majus, and those who worship others besides Allah, truly, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Verily! Allah is over all things a Witness.

but where did you get this they have/had no links with   the sabeans?  a Jewish sect/tribe living in and around Yemen?   interesting subject..  You forgot other word.. "Majus:"

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

Different root word in Arabic and sabeans can be traced to Sheba. Plus modern scholars have accepted no casual link between them.

It is really annoying trying to figure out what a sabian is and where it originated from. Just shows even the old muslims never understood it.

Can anyone provide me with a decent challenge?

But That Sheba Queen of history comes from southern Arabia such as the present lands west Yemen and Ethiopia ., is it not? I was under the impression that Sheba come out of Sabians/sabeans  not other way around..

Sheba was from 1200 bc to 275 ad and I think Sheba was the sabeans after looking it up but would need further clarification.

Do you have any links on  sabeans or different from Sabians?  The more interesting thing is those verses speaking about respecting monotheistic idea of god  though their gods are different from each other.  It is clear all these ideas of god are originated from individual gods of a tribe..  And they were all living happily respecting each other faith until Islam came into the middle..

This really implies a different religion to the sabian religion was going to use wiki but I decided against it. There is not a lot of evidence on the sabeans since the muslims destroyed a lot of their books and temples
