I'm still unsure about that, there's no doubt there is an issue, but misrepresenting the survey is beyond an error. Still, it's important to educate the public about relatively unknown issues so is any coverage good coverage? Hard to say. I have to admit though when I was watching the docu a voice in the back of my head was telling me that the tone was a lot more right wing than I was used to from the Beeb, perhaps it is I that has swung too far to the left on such issues recently.

I really don't see what there is to be equivocal about the documentary. And quite frankly the idea that a documentary about women's (and as often as not girls and minors) rights to not be subjected to forced marriage and the hell that honour crimes impose on women should tweak a response in you that it is 'right wing' is depressing and sad.

Just because the Daily Mail are shite doesn't mean the Panorama programme is diminished in any way.

Well, the content itself is sound, minus the stuff about the survey.

What tweaked that response as you say, was the tone. IE very subtle indicators where the doc starts with a white victim of honour killing (to hit home with the viewer) and ends with the same poor victim, it seemed to hint towards the idea that having a relationship with a Muslim is a danger to your health. Something else I sort of picked up on was that the narrator referred to the British Muslims involved as 'Asians' rather than British or British Asian as I would expect from the beeb. Anyway, these are small issues if at all, and I don't get why you would call that little twang in the sub conscience 'sad and depressing'. I have never doubted that the suffering of many Muslim women is serious yet ignored, but I was just questioning my perception of British  Muslim youth and how they view women and honour and how that survey has been misrepresented.

I see. A right wing tone. Okey dokey.

Either way, all of the people involved in this issue, all of the activists, all of the victims, all of those who have been through this and survived, all of those who live under threat, ostracism and devote their entire lives to dealing with it, are happy with this documentary and glad that it was made.

Thats all that matters at the end of the day.

True enough, and I think it's better that it was made than if it wasn't.

Plus they (and you) are all far smarter and more sensible than I so I really shouldn't be posting an opinion on it anyway, it's nothing but invalid rambling.

If you listen to those who work in this field, the one thing they say is that this has been allowed to linger without the attention it needs precisely because people would say talking about it was somehow racist or right wing. They've been so frustrated about it. Its sad really.

They can't be held to account for what the Daily Mail writes, they're going to do what they do anyway.

You make a good point, when I think about it I'm glad it's getting coverage regardless.

In related news, the movie "Honour Diaries", which is about women being abused under islamic law is banned from US universities.

    And apparently a growing backlash.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
