Ok, following on in the same vein of the last thread (which didn't exactly set the world ablaze)... let's try to get a repository going for all the Islamic rulings and sayings related to women, for the use of argumentation

For example  - Women not being allowed to hold a position of publicis office (judge, politician, company ceo etc etc)

    Quote
“No people will ever prosper who appoint a woman in charge of them.”

    Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4163.

Etc - this one above is particularly useful, I recently got into an argument with someone who claimed that the Islamic treatment of women in Muslim countries was overstated, and that I had only to look at Indonesia and Malaysia that had elected between them 10 females to political positions - regrettably I had forgotten the above hadith quote and the various rulings by scholars on the subject, so I was unable to point out that this was actually unislamic.

    Please add moar.

Whether or not there are women in positions of power doesn't say much about women's position on the whole in society. Women can still be part of the repressive patriarchy, they are given support and power as long as they uphold these structures. Actually, giving some women power is not unusual. As long as those women share the same values. What political views do the women and their party members express, is a far more interesting question. Women are still beaten by their husbands, rape victims are still punished, child brides are still an issue, women are worth shit. Despite the fact that like 10 privileged women from fancy families with the right social background rose to "power" Roll Eyes

Fully agree there, we don't need women to break the glass ceiling to political and economic power, we need to remove that whole unequal structure keeping everyone down. Both men and women are lessened and oppressed by patriarchy, capitalism, autocratic and oligarchic governance. The women who make it up to the top are just psychopathic as the men up there.

Every government should have 50% women and men representing each party, it's only fair.  Would be interesting to see how politics would change if atall.

    Quote
    Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Once Allah's Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Discussing women's suppositories sounds rude, Mr Gunner. I refuse to participate.

Welcome back btw. Arsenal seem as beautiful, yet as tortured as ever, my friend?

The stupid in these hadith burns! How can men and women defend the misogyny in the Qur'an and hadith with a straight face and dismiss it all as Allah's will?

Submitting to Allah, becoming a Muslim, means checking your brain in at the door.

Narrated 'Aisha: The things which annul the prayers were mentioned before me. They said, "Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people)." I said, "You have made us (i.e. women) dogs. I saw the Prophet praying while I used to lie in my bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I would slip away. for I disliked to face him."

     Cheesy

Yes it certainly seems that way, we have a run of decent fixtures coming up though so I'm hoping we can secure some points and get out of this mini-slump, being a matchgoer it's good to see a little of my money reinvested properly into the team nowadays though..
