I'm a 35 year old male from Romania. I may be the only Romanian here.
I learned English on my own, so please excuse my grammatical errors...
I'm a secular Christian(here in this country most of us are). Well... Honestly we don't believe in God, but here everybody is baptized around 3 months old, so we are all Christians, even in fact more than half are probably atheists. We don't have many Muslims (only 0.3% of population) and the ones we have are secular, mainly Turks and Tatars. I barely seen 2-3 hijabi in my all life here and I truly believe there's no woman to wear burka in Romania. Because here everybody will say: Look a NINJA. Seriously...
4 years ago I didn't know too much of Islam, although one of my passion is History. That was till the day me and my wife we saw the movie "The Stoning of Soraya M." which you may know is based on a true story. My wife cried half a movie and at least 1 hour after it ended. She didn't believe that this is happened nowadays. To be honest, I knew this is happening in Islam, but I still hoped that woman will not be somehow stoned to death.
Since then I begin to read about Islam, about the history of this religion and from about half an year I read this forum... and quite often
. Wikipedia can't compare with you, really... Didn't want to join, but after seeing that there are also many non ex-muslims I decided to have a go.
Well Charlie Hebdo affair gave me a push.
I was joining just to share some impressions with you. Guys you really have some amazing stories... Now I got used to them a little bit, but at the beginning I was puzzled of how important religion is in your life. You are such a wonderful community.
One reason to join is because here I can discuss and learn freely about Islam without someone making me a bigot or accuse me of Islamophobia. Because I really think Islam is bad. As Richard Dawkins is saying, hope all religions will be gone in about 1000 years. But Islam first.
Now, Charlie Hebdo brought first controversy in Romania about Islam, because we now have a lampoonist who said live on television some things about Islam, for which in UK he would have been dead already. No joking... But I should address this on the Charlie Hebdo related thread.
