  • Discussion with a Jordan girl
     OP - February 12, 2015, 11:01 PM

    Hi,

today a had an interesting, but short discussion about terrorism with a Jordan girl. She is a Christian. She complained that she had to go to a security check when she entered Germany, where she was asked stupid questions. The officer told her: "we have to ask certain questions to people from countries related to terrorism and unfortunately Jordan is one of these countries". The girl was highly offended. In the and the officer ask her, if she ever faced racism in Germany. She almost laugh and thought "yeah, right at the moment", but she didn't dare to say it.

Anyways, the topic went to terrorism and she said that terrorist are anywhere in the world. And that ISIS has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. Also Americans as Christians also did a lot of terror in the middle east.
Me: "Yes, but they haven't done it in the name of Jesus. Their aim was not to convert people to Christianity. ISIS is doing it in the name of Islam. And every thing they do is based on the Quran or Hadiths, such as taking slaves and having sex with them."
Another guy: "Is it really written so in the Quran?"
Me: "Yes, it is. You can take slaves and have sex with them. Even if they are married."
The Jordanian girl: "Yes, I was also very surprised when I read this. But my Muslim friend told me that you have to see it historically. The men fought in the desert were away from their wife's for a long time and had their desires."
Me: "And that makes it better? The Quran is supposed to be the final word of god. And as a Muslim I have to believe in it."
Another guy: "maybe someone changed the words for his own desires."
Me: "If you say that you're can't be a Muslim. As a Muslim you have to believe that the Quran is the final and unchanged word of god."

At this moment the discussion was interrupted and the topic changed.

Now, at home I wonder how, especially as a girl, you can say something like "the men had their desires"  no

How cruel must someone get to justify rape in the name of her religion? And how naive must someone be to accept this as a good excuse for such a Quran verse.

That was the first time I went into a discussion, like this, as an Ex-Muslim. Normally, I keep my opinion for myself, but today I couldn't.

I had a long discussion with a Christian Copt in Egypt and is striking how similar their mentality and outlook is to Muslim Egyptians.

You'd have thought that without Islam they may not have such a harsh and simplistic view and may perhaps reflect an influence from their more liberal minded co-religionists in the West, but sadly not in my experience. Arab/Eastern Christians have a very similar backward mentality to their Muslim compatriots.

Possibly developed as a methodology in part to fit in and not appear outside of the general harsh environs inclusive of Islamic Sharia punishments, supported by Christian texts in large part.

It has seeped into the wider culture now so it isn't even put on, it is learned through tradition/example and gets passed down without thought. All a protection method in the start to a degree.

    Brainwashing.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Just human nature - see, for example, Ireland's abortion laws.  Even though part of Ireland is in the UK, and historically dominated by Protestants, the laws on abortion in Northern Ireland are almost identical to those in the Republic of Ireland.

"Befriend them not, Oh murtads, and give them neither parrot nor bunny."  - happymurtad's advice on trolls.

Its just sad. This sort of thing should not be tolerated, and those who condone it, explicitly or otherwise ought to be taken to task, but instead we get this...

    how fuck works without shit??

Very true and that's a good analogy.

Also the Arab/Eastern Christians missed out on the enlightenment that Western Christianity went through.
