It's funny how he laid the blame on Aisha and not that the fact that having 9 wives might seriously fuck things up.

Thats because DB thought that Allah's chosen disciple treated all his wives equally (according to Islam its the prerequisite of polygamy), until of course you pointed out that he conceded the prophet had a favourite wife who was also jealous

You hit the ball out of the park with that one, and DBs stil looking for it Afro

By the way, there are some hadiths which are also other people saying that ayesha was 9 or 6, here are some:
    Quote
From "The History of Tabari", volume 9, page 131
(The Prophet) married her three years before the Emigration, when she was seven years old and consummated the marriage when she was nine years old, after he had emigrated to Medina in Shawwal. She was eighteen years old when he died.

    Bukhari vol. 7, #65:
Hisham said: "I have been informed that Aisha remained with the prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death).""

From the Encyclopedia of Islam, under "Aisha":

"Some time after the death of Khadija, Khawla suggested to Muhammad that he should marry either Aisha, the 6 year old daughter of his chief follower, or Sawda Zama, a widow of about 30, who had gone as a Muslim to Abyssinia and whose husband had died there. Muhammad is said to have asked her to arrange for him to marry both. It had already been agreed that Aisha should marry Djubayr Mutim, whose father, though still pagan, was friendly to the Muslims. By common consent, however, this agreement was set aside, and Muhammad was betrothed to Aisha... The marriage was not consummated until some months after the Hidjra, (in April 623, 624). Aisha went to live in an apartment in Muhammad's house, later the mosque of Median. She cannot have been more than ten years old at the time and took her toys to her new home."

So clearly people other an aisha have reported that she was 9 at the time

Hisham was informed by whom? by someone was informed by another... who were informed by Aicha she lived with the prophet for 9 years? Or that she was 9 at marriage? Either way, the chain of narrators is missing.

Tabari, as you know is a history book, not a religious book... Anyway, using Tabari many Muslims calculated Aicha's age to be anywhere from 14 to 27...

Tabari said in the introduction of his book:

    Quote
I shall likewise mention those (narrators) who came after them, giving additional information about them. I do this so that it can be clarified whose transmission (of traditions) is praised and whose information is transmitted, whose transmission is to be rejected and whose transmission is to be disregarded…The reader should know that with respect to all I have mentioned and made it a condition to set down in this book of mine, I rely upon traditions and reports which have been transmitted and which I attribute to their transmitters. I rely only very rarely upon (my own) rationality and internal thought processes. For no knowledge of the history of men of the past and of recent men and events is attainable by those who were not able to observe them and did not live in their time, except through information and transmission produced by informants and transmitters. This knowledge cannot be brought out by reason or produced by internal thought processes. This book of mine may contain some information mentioned by me on the authority of certain men of the past, which the reader may disapprove of and the listener may find detestable, because he can find nothing sound and no real meaning in it. In such cases, he should know that it is not my fault that such information comes to him, but the fault of someone who transmitted it to me. I have merely reported it as it was reported to me.

And you quoted encyclopedia of Islam... Who are you quoting? An author who used the information he got from Hadith or a history book? Again, there is no chain of narrators... and as I told you all accounts that report Aicha's age to be 9 years at marriage, all of them go back to Aicha and only Aicha.

Well it's not hard to count to 9 using your fingers I guess.

It's funny how he laid the blame on Aisha and not that the fact that having 9 wives might seriously fuck things up. I mean that's a harem. Even Hugh Hefner only kept 4 girlfriends.

well, since I'm not a Shia, I can't use this word exactly Smiley ... I discussed this with the Tailor before, she could have grossly exagerrated her age to seem younger than the other wives, she could have done this out of jealousy... since it's reported that ~2 of his wives, whom he married years after he married Aicha were around 17... she had to make herself young enough at the age of marriage so that at least she can't be older than those 2 wives...

Anyway, there are two more possibilities I discussed with the Tailor.

And why did Aisha have this extreme fetish for appearing young, to the point that she'd be willing to pretend that she started her married life at less than a decade old?

When Muhammad died, she was only 18, what was her need to appear so abysmally young in hadiths she narrated?

Aisha can claim that she's the prettiest wife, the smartest wife, the wife most excelling in housework, the most pious wife, the wife with the Daddy who is Muhammad's greatest ally...why try to make her age only absurdly young, out of jealousy?

All the above are qualities that a man might admire in his wife.

Since Muhammad was the crucible around which all these women's lives revolved, & even the Quran threatens them with graver punishment should they offend him, or promises them greater reward if they please him, your suggestion that Aisha reduced her age out of jealousy to make herself seem absurdly young only points in one direction-that Muhammad himself had a fetish for extreme youth in his women, that this was the trait he most admired in his women-over intelligence & skills.

World renowned historian Will Durant"...the Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilization is a precious good, whose delicate complex order and freedom can at any moment be overthrown..."

    Haha,

today I heard one new Turkish version of the Ayesha story:

She wasn't nine years old. Back in the days they started counting women's lifes after they had their period. So she was 20, or similar.

My response would be: well, then this would mean the first wife of Muhammed was 55 years old (instead of 40)? If you count like this.

At least some Muslims are accepting it, instead of trying to turn it around.
