    Is this true? Very suspicious that somehow she's a wife and not a slave.

    It seems very... weird that you can change the entire story by twisting 1-2 words here and there and now... from a "slave" woman it becomes a "free" woman... O-O

    I've heard that years ago. Certainly, it was the case that people I knew while growing up referred to her, and the other one whose name escapes me, as Muhammad's wives. 'Sex slaves gained as war booty', though more accurate doesn't sound as nice as 'wife'.
