    http://georgiastatesignal.com/niqab-wearing-muslim-student-refuses-teachers-request-unveil/

    Thoughts ?

My own is that the security reasons for prohibiting face coverings are legit, religious exceptions should not be made, what are you going to do if someone claims to be covering their face for religious purposes and then commits a crime and is never identified?

And why do we make so many exemptions for religion when America is a faithless nation? Don't tax churches, exempt Muslims from laws, what is next? Teaching creationism in public schools because teaching evolution is against a student's religion? (oh wait it's already happening http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2014/01/creationism_in_public_schools_mapped_where_tax_money_supports_alternatives.html )

Where do we draw the line between what's freedom of religion and expression and what is ultimately limiting the freedom of everyone else?

When I was a student during tests and exams all the students had to show a photo id student card and put their signature on a paper to show they were attending the exam.   We were not allowed to chew gum during language classes so the instructors could see our face and correct diction.  For some class such as laboratories where a live flame is used,  specific clothing and hairstyles are enforced for safety reasons.  A veiling hanging over the face is a hazard.  So this student should figure it out.  She could always stay at home and study by correspondence.

People do commit crimes while obsuring their face using hoodies, masks and niquabs.

To me some people's idea of expressing modesty and piety is a brain gag.

Seems like it's getting handled pretty responsibly and without hysteria. Which is nice for a change.
