     OP - October 08, 2017, 09:45 PM

    I think most of us in the west get that xmas  feeling but I wanted to know why it i unique to xmas and not anyother holiday?

    is it because

    its a Winter/Autumn thing? get the same feeling for bonfire night ect

    is it to do with the above plus it being done by most people in western countries plus the rich history of it that comes with it? so may not get Xmas feeling in say Australia in the heat?

     is there something special to xmas? its pop culture,TV and music related to it? kids stuff?

    Or our own cultural bias since we grown up around/on it?

    and why is Eid boring/ not have as much of the above even in Huh?Huh???Muslim lands?Huh?Huh???

    and what about Holi? it seams fun and all but as with Eid seam like bank holidays compared to xmas?

    i belive its because xmas has all the reasons i suggested put together to make it feel more special, such as the child hood cartoons songs and the winter warm feeling put together with pop culture and the whole country doing it to make it feel "magical" where as the other hoildays only capture one aspect but discard the others

    i.e Eid has family feel (not for many like me) but very little fun and pop culture/tv and kids shows/songs on it where as Holi is fun but has no family or child connection.

    I know i left out other holidays such as thanks giving or 4 July but who can bring them up to. but i feel they are area or nationhood specific.

    discuss

     thnkyu

    I would say that it's because Christmas has evolved over the years to include and add new fun activities, with very little emphasis on the true historicity of Jesus.

    * Jesus simply wasn't born on Dec 25th, yada yada yada
    * Santa Clause ... wtf?
    * and so on and so on

    Whereas Eid, generally, tries to remain true to the spirit and tradition of eid. - So most people go to read Eid prayers, don't drink etc - so booorrring in comparison

    Eid, as it is, simply cannot compete with Christmas (Can you imagine a high proportion of muslim kids being brought up believing in a Santa Clause equivalent) Things are changing, slowly, but in that way, Eid is becoming another fancy dancy celebration.

    The above is not to say that one is better than the other - I personally have more sympathy for the Islamic cultural position... At least it's trying to be true to it's core.

    Preffere chrismas but to be fare the last couple oh years i never gave it any interest due to being an islamist and prob wont have a good one anytime soon since no one in fam celebrate it. But love the feeling in the cold air i get during it.

    CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!! dance

    `But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
     `Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
     `How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
     `You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

    It's weird. I really like the Christmas day, and whatever traditions could go along with it. But I fucking hate the Christmas "season". Please, US commercialism, leave me alone for a bit. Stahp.

    how fuck works without shit??

    * Santa Clause ... wtf?

    The modern Santa Claus grew out of traditions surrounding the historical Saint Nicholas, also known as Nikolaos of Myra. He was a 4th-century christian saint, the Bishop of Myra (modern-day Demre, Turkey). His reputation evolved among the faithful for his legendary habit of secret gift-giving, which gave rise to the traditional model of Santa Claus.

    Jolly old Saint Nick. parrot
