  • Ex-Muslim seeking help.
     OP - October 18, 2013, 04:56 AM

I'm an Egyptian ex-Muslim Atheist and I'm am currently residing in Denmark with my girlfriend (who is Danish) as I am scared to go back to my home country and get arrested or tortured for apostasy and criticizing Islam. I have been legally traveling between Europe and North America every three months for the past two years and I don't have much money left to keep traveling (around 6000 GBP).  I have no home where I can get back to in Egypt and my family doesn't accept me for rejecting Islam. I have applied for Asylum in Denmark (Sandholm) even though they only accept 33% of cases. if my case gets rejected and I'm sent back to Egypt, my chances of survival would be minimal.

My hatred towards Islam started when I saw how violent and immoral that religion is. I have been taught as a child that Islam is the one true religion and that anyone that is not Muslim is considered to be an enemy and I simply couldn't accept that kind of logic. I also happen to love Islam's number one enemy; Science, and thanks to it, I became who I am today.

I've never felt freedom before and I hope to be part of a secular society that wouldn't kill or torture me for my own freedom of thought. I am also psychologically frustrated as I feel chained to something that I don't and will never belong to.

    Additional Info.

    Egyptian Law:

Article 2 of the Egyptian Constitution makes “the principles of Islamic law the main source of legislation, a statement defining the relationship between Islam and Egyptian Law, essentially unchanged from Egypt's old constitution. At the urging of Islamists, another article was added to the constitution strengthening the relationship, defining the “principles of Shariah” in the terms of Muslim Sunni jurisprudence i.e. "evidence, rules, jurisprudence and sources" accepted by Sunni Islam. Liberals fear "Islamic punishments for things like theft, adultery, and blasphemy are not far behind".

    Shariah Law:

Narrated 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."
    Sahih Bukhari 9:83:17

Narrated Ikrima: Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' "

    Sahih Bukhari 4:52:260

Former Muslims are often persecuted, abused and killed by Muslims. This treatment of apostates is not simply down to the issue of state-enforced religion as some may suggest. The violence or threats of violence against apostates in the Muslim world usually derives, not from government authorities, but from family members and individuals from the Islamic communities themselves, who operate very often with impunity from the government.

There is also a list on Wikiislam of Egyptian ex-Muslims who have been prosecuted/tortured/killed.

Any help would be very appreciated.

    Thank you.

If it's that bad, my best advice would be to plan for the application not working out and just tell people that you've seen the error of your ways and have embraced islam again. If you're granted asylum, then you won't have to hide, if you're not, you won't be at risk. Sorry, best advice I can think of.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

No, I don't think that is the way to go. You are already in the West and you have many options. I would contact a lawyer (I suppose you have already done that). But you may be able to get additional legal advice here at CEMB , I suggest you contact Maryam Namazie and discuss your issue, one of the mods here could perhaps put you in contact with her.

Another option for you might be to marry your Danish girlfriend and get Danish citizenship that way. How long have you been dating? I am sure she would do it to help you out if she understands how dangerous your situation is.

But before you try that make sure you get legal advice to insure that that will not mess up your application for asylum.

Maybe try and contact this guy Alber Saber, he was arrested for blasphemy, posted bail and fled Egypt and is now living in Switzerland I believe, maybe he can offer you advice on what you should do.

I know a couple of other Egyptians on facebook that are in similar situations as you but in the USA, if you want I could try and contact them and see if they have any advice for you.

    PM me if you want.
