  • Legalised murder?
     OP - December 13, 2008, 01:14 PM

    Quote
Three months ago, Baroness Warnock, the government adviser and moral philosopher, said that there was ?nothing wrong? with people being helped to die for the sake of their loved ones and society. She hoped that people would soon be ?licensed to put others down? if they could not look after themselves and had become a burden. Those who were demented, she said, were ?wasting people's lives - your family's lives - and ... the resources of the National Health Service?.

I was deeply shocked and disturbed, when I read this... License to put others down?? Yeah, let?s decide, who deserves life, and who is "lebensUNwert". I thought, England fought the Nazis to oppose just such thinking...  Huh?

That's a harsh outlook she has, I could never be so coldy rational about the process of life and death.

I understand the desire to ease a loved ones suffering IF THEY HAVE ASKED YOU TO, but not to make those choices for them.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I don't think I'd want to comment on this article as it stands. It makes selective use of quoted snippings and splices them with the author's own additions in a too skillful way.
That said, it's OK for Frances comfortable-middle-class Gibbs to expound like this about her Mother but what right has she to say that others who would have it otherwise, make their own minds up and have themselves, with or without assistance, end their own misery. Only they can judge how they feel.
And if they so decide, then let it be done in a humane manner, close to home and family. I have already let my views about my own end known to my nearest and dearest and we're all of the same mind  about a change in the law. Roll on real mercy.
You would not let a beloved pet suffer the final indignities and suffering that many humans endure and, in fact, you'd be open to prosecution for cruelty to animals if you did, in some cases. It's time we extended the same compassion and mercy to anyone who desires it.

Religion is ignorance giftwrapped in lyricism.

It makes me too angry to comment.

Need to speed up the demise of a pesky elderly who took care of you when you were a kid and now is waiting on you to return the favor? We can help..
Need to reduce the total cost of health care in your society? Drop us a Granny.
Baby Boomers are overwhelming your hospitals? We can cut this problem in half.

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"
