Those pictures are heart-warming. It's hard to believe they're that tame.

They aren't, but they're desperate. Koala's usually don't drink water usually; they get water from the eucalyptus leaves they eat. But no leaves around means they need water.

I really hope they get each and every person responsible for this outrage and throw the book at them! I keep turning on the news and seeing the devastation and it's just sickening. All these charred cars with bodies in them and dead bodies littering the roadside. The stories coming out of Oz just make my heart sick  Cry

You are thinking along the same lines of every single Australian.

    Os & Heartbomb,

Please come and post on the forum so we know you're okay! And don't scare us like this again!!!! :(

I'm fine. Like I said in the shoutbox and the staff board I am literally a thousand miles from the fires. I have been through bushfires before and I know what it can be like so those involved have my sympathy.

    Holy Shit!

The last post from O's was February 07, 2009, 09:27:02 PM and Heartbomb on February 06, 2009, 09:48:35 am.

When did the fire start?  Anyone got their numbers?

Os has posted more recently than that in the Mods forum.  He was logged in today as well, so hopefully he's okay.

Heartbomb  I'm worried about now.  Does anybody know if she's in Victoria?

HB is over in WA somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the devastation in your part of the world, for those out there. As I was coming to work a few mins ago, there was a report on BBC radio 4.

Very sad to hear what people went thru. Also they spoke to a criminolist there and asked him what is the profile of persons that would lend themselves to arson.

I thought oh no hope the 'M' word is not mentioned. Well thankfully it wasn't. The guy spoke about young people with grouses, people obsessed with fire, fire engines, people who applied for firemen jobs and were turned down, that sort of thing.

Yep. Australia has been having bushfires for centuries and it has nothing to do with Muslims. All the arsonists I've ever heard of that were prosecuted for starting bushfires were your average white Australians (although obviously they were a bit fucked in the head or something).

    Check the old fire-map out.

It's getting better. Was bad this morning but fires have decreased. According to the map anyways:

My mates and I were discussing this today.

Our verdit is the death penalty, although this was a hard one to justify. Some did it by accident so, that would be a problem. But we all thought that they deserve the killage.

Australia doesn't have the death penalty. Police are interviewing a few people who started new fires though....what's wrong with these people?!!

I know it doesnt have the death penalty but the pack has decided that this is what they deserve but will probably end up getting life.

No, because they haven't finished the investigation yet.

Local residents have been warned against seeking revenge after a man was charged over the Churchill bushfire which killed 21 people in Gippsland, in Victoria's southeast.

As he was driven away from Morwell Magistrates Court on Friday, angry residents hurled abuse at the man who has been charged with arson causing death, intentionally or recklessly causing a bushfire, and possessing child pornography.

He could face 25 years in jail.

The accused man's lawyer said on Friday his client was in a fragile mental state.

"He should be seen to by a doctor," the lawyer said.

Uh oh... I feel an insanity plea coming on....

I came across this about the Ozzi bush firs
    Quote
    Today Sunday Feb 15

A snake warning has been issued for the entire metropolitan area of Adelaide. Due to the recent heatwave,Brown snakes have hatched about 2 weeks early, and baby browns(about the size of pencil) are to be being found in all metro areas.

The Brown snake (Pseudonaja Textilis) is the second deadliest land snake in the world. A juvenile has enough venom to kill 20 adults.

Can an Ozzi onboard here please confirm.

I was not blessed with the ability to have blind faith. I cant beleive something just because someone says its true.

Meh. A baby brown would be lucky to kill a child, let alone twenty adults. They're too small to actually bite humans.

However it is true that brown snakes have particularly potent venom and will bite when they feel threatened. The part about the heat causing them to hatch earlier than normal may well be true too, but there wont be any more snakes hatched than in any other year.

They may be more inclined to head for unburnt areas though as their normal range is largely devoid of food at the moment.
