Thanks Hassan, I just tuned in.

While we're on the subject... Yusuf Islam quit music when he converted to Islam didn't he?  What made him pick up his guitar again after so many years?  It could've been for financial reasons I guess.

I had a bit of a moral dilemma over old Yusuf .  ' Teaser and the Firecat ' was one of the first records I ever owned so he kind of had a place in my heart , but then he seemed to disappear for a few years . Next I knew ,  there he was on the  evening news , calling for the murder of a fellow citizen and creative . So it was a bit of a quandary . Luckily for me his new stuff is really shit , so problem solved . I love my dog much more than I love you Yusuf , I'll be watching newsnight , the shopping channel ,  hell maybe even ITV2 , anything else really...

I think his son's interest in being a musician softened his attitude and when his son brought a guitar home, Yusuf couldn't resist the temptation. He also sees it a a good way of making Da'wa - to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

I know what you mean. I can't say I was ever a huge fan, but as I have known him personally for so many years I am still interested in what he's up to these days.

Personally I'm glad he's returned to music - mainly because he is regarded highly amongst Muslims and if Yusuf reckons music is OK then others will - which will all help break down the hold Salafism has on some Muslims.

If he can get all the radical imams singing Kumbaya I'll be impressed. Grin
