Sometimes I actually think of these Muslims that are really fussy like this as actually being stern Libertarians. It's the only way I can make sense out of why they say things like this. You see, by having women guards in your prison, you are violating their liberty. Under J. S. Mill's Harm Principle, the only justified cause for harming others is to prevent harm itself. Now, Muslims will go some way (and I have been in this debate before with a couple of people on the Islamic forum I used to go on) in arguing that things like this, having women guards, is actually harming them. J. S. Mill did say that mere offence does not count. But it is difficult to define "offence". After all, hitting somebody over the head and causing them brain damage is a permissable thing to do in a Libertarian viewpoint as long as the person taking the hits actually wants you to do it. However, if that person takes offence to you hitting him/her over the head, then you shouldn't do it. How would you make sense out of this?
