Peace all,
There is no section here to do with Art, only with Science and Reason, which I suppose is fair enough. Although given that mainstream Islam (currently) tends to be rather anti art, particularly mimetic/representational art and music, it is certainly also appropriate to talk about art on a forum such as this.
At the risk of sounding really patronizing (although I'm sure those of you who have interacted with me know that this is not my intent), addressing all the recent apostates out there, I thoroughly recommend you embrace all -- wholeheartedly and with an open mind -- all the finer stuff in life that your former religion denied you: go out and see an exhibition, learn about what makes a good wine, how to date properly with a member of the opposite sex, go out and buy some Glenn Gould's Goldberg variations, read some poetry! Many leave Islam but have no compass for navigating the brave new world of Culture that beckons: they start to drink, but they drink rubbish plonk because they haven't even a rudimentary background in vinology, they attempt to become open with their sexuality, but haven't learnt the sweet, sweet art of sexy slow seduction, they listen to some awful pop when they could be engaging with Bach. Mainstream Islam has rendered so many of its subjects colour blind and tasteless: so I urge you to see and taste!
I wanted to share with you some notes on a few impressionist paintings, and their relation to the what in Sufism is sometimes called the 2nd and 3rd levels of ascent:
