    I am a bit annoyed! This is what somebody responded to me when I politely questioned the historiographical reliability of the science of hadith:

    Why is a period referred to as the dark ages, when it was only the west that was throwing their waste outside of their windows, suffering from plagues, and never bathed?

    At the same time, Muslims in Andalus had street lights, sewage system, pefume, knowledge, knew the earth was not flat etc...

    Secular history doesnt mention the truth about the oppression the Native Americans suffered.

    History doesnt mention the oppression that colonialism unleashed upon the world.

    It doesnt mention the true role of The East India Company in the Hind

    It doesnt mention the true role of Lawrence of Arabia



    Double standards are such an ugly thing


    Firstly, he has just shown he doesn't know anything about history and just come up with a load of bullshit generalisations and assumptions.

    And secondly, why do Muslims often respond to a criticism of anything to do with Islam with a criticism of the west, instead of defending what is criticised?!

    Lol, it's like criticising someones work and to defend themselves they say 'but you're wrong here, here and here' and they just won't face it actual point of the dicussion, which is their work.

    When it comes to Islam - most Muslims I know suddenly become extremely irrational. Criticising Islam to a Muslim is like telling someone their mother is ugly. Its all personalised.
    Take the Pakman challenge and convince me there is a God and Mo was not a murdering, power hungry sex maniac.

    Hi,

    Things are ok, but it's about to get intense, next years project is 50% of the year, and measuring my ability with how last years project went it is not looking good, but I've decided to put more effort in this year.

    Things went a bit messy for a while with the headscarf off (mum wasn't talking to me for weeks etc), but it's settling down now. Started work soon after the exams finished so havn't had much time, but hopefully will be on here more often now.

    How have you been?

    P.S. I think we are deviating from the OT ..

    Thats interesting.

    I notice if i approach the topic with other Muslims in a respectful way, they will respond.
    I believe it is when people attack, it forces Muslims to go defensive.

    I don't think many Muslims are blind to the faults in Islam, they just will not let it be heard outside of their circles but they can admit to themselves.

    Hmm, it's more like if you voice doubt in islam, or try and say that something seems faulty in islam, the solution is 'we must not question it' or 'god's religion is perfect' etc. Well, at least from my background.

    Yes some do become hostile in my opinion, they think you are attacking them when you are critising their belief, but of course they hold their belief so tightly (intertwined with their emotions, ego etc) they will take it personally, islam is a way of life after all.

    A gentle objection is handled okay with a predictable get out phrase but when you really hammer a point home and force the Muslim to really think about it, they get mad.
    Take the Pakman challenge and convince me there is a God and Mo was not a murdering, power hungry sex maniac.

    True. Some of them start throwing in the argument from authority/popularity or even try to show the superiority of islam over other religions. What difference do they think that will make?

    The popularity excuse is ridiculous to be honest, if they say something like 'look how many people are muslim, how can so many people be wrong?'. Back in the days, when Islam was starting out, it was in the minority so...how could all the pagans, christians, jews (whatever religion was dominant) be wrong?

    If I owned a football club. And I made a rule that the kids of each supporter HAVE TO be a supporter too.
    I would be the club with the most supporters after like 1500 years..

    If we were to go by numbers then I think Christianity wins. I think in terms of fastest growing religion, isnt it Buddhism? I know Islam seems to be the fastest reproducing. Afro

    Judging from the last few weeks on this site, apostacy seems to be pretty fast growing too.
