  • Arabic sub-forum: a milestone in COEM history
     OP - July 19, 2010, 09:48 PM

I think Hassan's idea for this Arabic subforum is a very good step and a milestone that is as important as the forum itself. COEM is an Ex-Muslim forum, and we all know that Arabic is a major part of Islam. In fact to be a Muslim (as silly as it may seem) you have to learn at least  several Arabic verses to pray the 5 daily prayers.

While all the visitors so far seems to speak English very well, I think having this sub-forum might tempt many more non-english speaking Arabic visitors (Muslims and Ex-muslim alike). So well done Hassan and hopefully it will help many questioning Muslims to visit and discuss their doubts and queries.  Afro

Tis a good idea. We have a little bit of debugging to do but bear with us and it should all get sorted fairly quickly.  Afro

Definitely. Afro I can't understand Arabic, though I can read it, as most of us learned to do when we were growing up as Muslims, but this was a great idea, for sure. I am also happy to see that we have 3 trusted members who are willing to help moderate the Arabic section. Thanks RIBS, Hassan and Iraqi Atheist!  hugs

We could also do Farsi and Urdu boards if there was enough call for them. Mind you we get those even in the normal boards and shoutbox anyway.  grin12

I can read and write Arabic, but my understanding of the language is limited, because of my somewhat limited vocabulary.  My grammar isn't appalling.

I probably will not participate much because I don't have an arabic keyboard (physically) so it will take me ages to write sentences. whistling2

I'll just spam the place up by using Google Translate and Babelfish. dance

For best effect, translate through about five other languages before getting to Arabic.  Wink

Yeah, I love Google Translate.  Luckily I can read the arabic text and correct anything silly before I post the arabic text.  Smiley

Same as, I'm kinda gutted I didn't pay more attention at the time too lol but this is a good idea for a sub forum.  Just a damn shame I won't be able to understand most of what goes down in here.

Probably a good thing, spare the arabic sub forum from the usual derailments.  Grin
