    I woke up this morning to see that Yusuf "Somalian's bodies are just sticky clay" Chambers from iERA had posted on my facebook wall challenging me to explain what atheism offers over Islam.

    I responded, explaining how it gives one the freedom to change something when it is identified as not working very well rather than having to pretend there is a higher purpose that we cannot understand and that "Allah knows best."  I also pointed out that the "consistency" of Islamic law is a problem, because the bad parts will remain consistently bad unless Allah himself comes to Earth to change them....because Muhammad said there would be no more messengers.  Finally I finished with this:

    I popped out to the bank, and when I returned he had deleted the entire wall post.  So out of the blue he challenged me, and then when I accepted not only did he run away but he also deleted the evidence to pretend it had never happened.

    He has really made me chuckle Smiley

    He is just following a long illustrious tradition for these people issuing challenges, hoping they will be declined or postponed in an effort to provide some ammunition for a cheapshot at your legitimacy in your refutations of their work.

    ^Atheism is not expected to offer anything. It should be the default, although many tend to think it's special.

    It does offer something.  It offers you the freedom to think what you want to think without fear.  It offers you the freedom to try alternative solutions to problems without the fear that you will be tortured endlessly.  It offers you the potential freedom to say something isn't working without people around you being horrified at the mere suggestion that their current system is imperfect.

    It offers you the removal of constraints of a 7th century culture.

    It also affords you the opportunity to take responsibility for your
    own damned self.    Think of ALL the bad shit that has happened in
    history in the name of god.  ANY god.  Beheadings, limbs chopped
    off, stoned to death, lashings, crucified, being ostercized from communities
    and families, death threats, hatred, tribalism, WAR... the list goes on. Yeah,
    god has alot to offer, and to top that off, no matter how devout you
    are, no matter how many heart wrenching sacrifices you make,
    you STILL can wind up in enternal damnation!

    As well as a more mature attitude to life. As you ^ said, you take responsibility for your own actions. I see it as freeing yourself from believing that some non–existent father figure is looking out for you, and having to approach life as an adult instead. Scary. But good.

    He's implying that if women were given a choice, they would naturally choose the hijab because in the West, we're *forced* to dress in mini skirts for the appeasement of men.  mysmilie_977

    I am sure there are  nuances of modest dress throughout the muslim world also, albeit this side of very conservative/conservative. Yes women dress for comfort and protection and many many dress responsibly and sensibly but don't ya think that Disney/MTV/Media/Porn sorta 'grooms' most of us incidentally but young girls the most (maybe unintentionally)- into capitalising on their sexual worth/erotic value at the earliest possible times.

    Not saying every female is the same. Sure they will say they dress for job or to impress their girlfriends, or for themselves when they go out, maybe in this case getting male attention is a good/bad by-product. But take tattoos, some people who have them done, say I have done it for myself, not for other people to see, so those tattoos found on the lower back of some females (you think gay men who are playing bottom also have tattoos there?), who is gonna see them, certainly ain't the person wearing it.

    Burkhas sexualise too but do so in  the opposite spectrum. I suppose all clothing sexualises - if you only cover your bits and tits (if female)you are sexualising them. Go around nude lol but that has its own inherent problems.

    Imo a balance which is achieved simply by dressing responsibily and sensibily especially if you are young person.

    Dress can depend on the situation. You aren't going to dress the same for a job interview as you would a night on the town, or dress for a funeral the same as you would lounging around the house.

    Basically he said iERA was more deserving of money than a starving Somali because starving Somalis are just clay therefore you should pay for Hamza and co to fly around the world rather than buy a sandwich for a starving Somali because humans are only clay but the soul will go forever to jannah or jahannam. It wasn't anti Somali, just anti human.

    The Rationalizer phoned into the show and pointed out that if you buy a starving person food and islam is right you'll get allah points for a good deed and save someone's life, and if islam is wrong you'll have done a good deed and saved someone's life.
